Hi guys

My wife has a distance relative live in US(New York), this person is a daughter of my wife's grandmother's sister, so when CO ask my wife if she has any relative in US, what would be the best answer ?

Thanks

If I followed this right, then she would say her great grandmother has a granddaughter in New York. Let them figure out if they're even third cousins at some removed count.

why is that a tough question? the best answer is the honest answer...or if all along your wife's said she has no us relative then just say no if they ask. if they can actually dig up the family tree just tell 'em good job i never knew may i have her info.

The best answer depends on whether your wife has ever lied in the past (for anything, not just immigration related instances). You need to ask her "Have you ever lied about anything in the past?"

She should know what to do for this particular case once you've asked her that question. Fair enough?

Don't assume everyone is the same. What if she's a habitual liar? Wouldn't you think asking her to tell the truth now is something she simply can't do, even though it surely looks like a very simple task for most people?

The OP is not asking if they should lie or not.. he is asking if it is a significant enough of a relationship to note... many would interpret the relationship as too distant to note and others would say if they are aware of the person as 'related' then say it... there is no valid reason not to make note of the relative if one is aware of it...

lets not go down the acusing the OP's SO of being a liar path...

The Us Consulate asks a very simple question (at least IMHO). And it certainly asks for a list of "relative(s)". It didn't ask for "distant" /"not so close" /"whatever else insert here" relative(s). That means whoever you think you know that are related to you, LIST IT.

Only liars would have trouble understand that concept. Smart ####!

Just my 2 cents. If your wife never met her relative from New York in person. I would answer NO. Why give CO more info. to dig in her interview?
