I think we need to start a catagory called MMID.

That could be followed by the statement MMID and here is why...

Its almost as if women come on here to state all the reason TMID and then wait for a rebuttal.

Just because someone has a good job in France, doesn't mean they don't have to start trying to figure out how to fix their status. Then the race begins to secure citizenship and residency in the place they want to end up. I couldn't imagine a long platonic conversation ensuing where there was the intention of a relationship. It sounds fishy to me and just because someone can come here ( on a visa that is a 10 year entry or tourist or school visa) does not mean they have no underlying intentions. But of course, MMID

Exactly. Why get married or engaged when the ultimate goal is to figure out which foreign country they are going to throw their will behind

OK I am slow. What is MMID and TMID :help:

Waiting for the OP to return and shed more light on the points that IHQ raised.

Yeah, well, I re-read it and something else doesn't make sense: his work status. Either he's permitted to work or he isn't.

That could just be me because I don't know much about France's immigration laws. I do, however, know that the ex- BIL and ex- SIL took a trip to Paris and parked it for six years until they got their papers fixed.

How did they get their papers fixed anyway? Did one of them marry? All I know is that I know a woman who has been in paris for like 24 years and her apartment is rent controlled and pretty much free because she got on a waiting list. Many people find a way NOT to have to pay rent.. they get subsidised apartments and secure them by having a ton of french born kids

I have no idea. Their story was so convoluted anyway. He told me he lived in the US for more than 20 years (judging from his English, I would say that's true) on a green card, but didn't get his citizenship because "America doesn't give citizenship to people who used to work on farms" (which is what he told his wife, and she believed). Still, he wouldn't take his wife to the US and left her in Paris. As soon as they got their residency in France straightened out, they came back to Egypt for a visit (complete with renting an BMW to show off), but left the baby behind - didn't even bring him so his dying grandmother could see him. Somehow, the ex- SIL managed to go to university in Paris, though. It was a weird situation.

France is a much better deal than the US to marry for papers. You can a rent controlled apartment, you get a month off every august ( not like those american cretins who think a week is a long time.. the nerve.. and of course there is paris in the spring. I say lets convince everyone who wants to marry an american for papers to GO FRENCH

a much better deal I think

Oh and there is cannes.. and you can go pretty much everywhere on a french passport.. why deal with the cretins when you eat brie?

I lived in Paris from 2005 to 2008. The deal is that if you are on a student visa, you are allowed to work 20 hours a week, and you are entitled to some benefits, such as access to rent controlled apartments, cheaper metro passes, cheap mutual plans for awesome health insurance. What strikes me as odd is being on a student visa for 8 years. This would mean that the person has done college (3 years) Master 2 (2 years) and PhD (3 years). Anything else would not be possible to be in school that long.

Working in Turkmenistan, spouse is with me.

Dealing with the NVC process...
