I have not seen that one. I thought it looked too gruesome to watch. I don't think a good horror film has to be all that graphic to scare the sh!t out of you.

It is not like a slasher film. It is very psychological. I would highly recommend it.

I agree One of my favorite movies. I'm not a gruesome movie watcher by any means and this movie definately falls into the psycholocical rather than gruesome category. I've yet to see Saw2 but I'm looking forward to it.

There are some films that leave an imprint I would have rather never to have imagined. I like to be scared as long as it's not rooted too much in reality.

I would say this one is in the reality box but it really makes you think and keeps you on the egde of your seat. By no means is it not gruesome, its just that it is not soley based on that as many horror movies are. I class it as an intellectual suspense, thriller, horror movie. I don't think you will be disappointed.

I vote for "The Ring" and "Juon" (original of the grudge" I dont remember the original name of The Ring but it was also crazy!

I dont like the hurror movie that just kill kill kill..it's not that good IMO

I don't think of Sixth Sense or Silence of the Lambs as Horror movies but more suspense.

I like original Stephen Kings Horror Movies all were decent scary movies with Dark themes

Its difficult for me to find a movie that'll actually scare me anymore. I can sit home alone in the dark and watch horror movies and meh...nuthin...BUT, we went to see "The Descent" recently (well, couple months ago) and yeah, that scared me a bit. I hate hate hate caves, and then there were those creepy crawly canabalistic gollums...*shudder*

When I was a kid, THE SCARIEST movie I ever saw was Black Christmas and probably still would be if I ever could find it to rent.

I love horror movies, they're my favourite genre, and most of the ones listed in the OP I wouldn't consider even scary. M. Night Shaymalan is good at occasionally startling the audience, but I wouldn't necessarily say any of this movies have been outright scary or horrific. At least not to me. Tho I did like Sixth Sense, and didn't suspect the ending that was coming at all, which is why I liked it. Its hard to suprprise me anymore! Some of his other movies tho have tanked...The Village anyone?

Most of the recent horror movies I've found kinda boring. Blair Witch, The Grudge, The Ring...etc etc etc...even Rob Zombie's movies, tho entertaining and gory, are anything but scary IMO. Zombie seems to go more for the 4 letter word offense rather than actual horror.

I did like Secret Window with Johnny Depp, and bought the DVD. Tho subsequent viewings aren't quite as good as the first time. He is brilliant in it tho, arguing with himself. He's brill in just about anything. From Hell, and Sleepy Hollow are other near horror movies of his that are pretty good.

Another good one IMO, is The Vanishing, with Keiffer Sutherland and Jeff Bridges. That bit with the shovel into the face was just ick! And the movie itself is fairly suspenseful.

I also liked the first Halloween, and most all of the Nightmare on Elm Street movies. I have the whole boxed set, minus the latest Freddy vs. Jason, which was just delightful camp for those of us of that generation I never did like the Jason series, dunno why, it just never did anything for me.

Then of course there's a whole whack of late 70s and thru the 80s horror flicks, which we all used to sit around getting high and watching, which are just nostalgia now. Halloween, Hell Night, When a Stranger Calls, etc etc etc... *sigh* Oh to be young again, and horror is still new and scary

I didn't think too much of Saw. I watched it after hearing good things and was greatly disappointed by the screenplay. The trailer had an interesting premise - where a guy is faced with the "Mad Max" choice of cutting through his own leg with a hacksaw or dying. Unfortunately when he does it, its at a point in the script where it has become completely irrelevant.

Saw is not too different from an indie movie called Cube. See both and compare.

Not tense so much as plain brutal (lazy film-making IMO). I mean, compare it to Jaws where you don't actually see the shark until the last 30 minutes, or anything by Hitchcock. Creating tension and fear is a lot different from brutalising the audience with scenes of violence. I would actually add that the latter is not too dissimilar to porn.

I've got to agree, that's exactly what it is. I didn't see Hostel or Saw or it's sequel just because they seemed to be more disturbing than scary. I'm not really interested in gratuitous violence for violence's sake. I've heard lots of good things about Saw and Saw II but when it's described to me, it just sounds gross not scary.

As a child I was absolutely terrified when I saw Stephen King's It, I literally had nightmares for a year and it started a lifelong fear of clowns. My favourite horror movie is the original Halloween. That one can still get a scare out of me, in my mind it's a bit of a classic. Japanese/Asian horror movies are pretty scary too, much more so than the American remakes.

zackly. There's no suspense anymore, its just gore and things jumping out at you from the closet to startle you. Sure, that might get your heart pumping for a half a minute, but I wouldn't necessarily call it "scary". My husband jumps out at me all the time, I don't need movies to do it too. If I spend my hard earned $7 to see a scary movie, I want to see a scary movie dammit. There haven't been any for a very long time. Part of that is desensitisation from watching too many in the 80s and the other part is that no one makes 'em anymore. It used to be we didn't know what the hell was going on til the end, now the bad guy jumps out at you so early on it get boring

The animated Snow White is scarier than most horror flicks these days

I also thought that Saw would have worked MUCH better with less of the gore. The situations that the people were placed in greatly disturbed me. How people can say it wasn't a slasher film I'll never know; especially the woman with the cage thing on her head that is going to rip her face apart. I have a strong stomach but that movie? Just made me feel like I'd watched something I shouldn't have.

Seven on the other hand was also a nasty film...but it was all *taps head* up here. You don't see much (it is all in your head), it had a fabulous and clever script....AND it had Kevin Spacey in it. 'Nuff said!

I really prefer the classic "thrillers/suspense" over what is considered "scary"...Joan Crawford in Strait Jacket scared me half to death when I was a kid! Bette Davis in Hush, Hush Sweet Charlotte, The Nanny, Whatever Happened to Baby Jane (co-starring with Joan C)...Dark Mirror with Olivia de Havilland, Gaslight (the original with someone I don't remember and the remake with Ingrid Bergman)...okay, I'll stop.

They don't make 'em like that anymore...when there's actually a PLOT and the black/white lighting can really add to the ambiance.
