Hi I'm a US petitioner for a K1 Visa of my Ukraine fiancé'. One question that has come up is whether or not she will need an official Ukraine certified update of her USSR birth certificate prior to leaving the country and by the Ukrainian government.

I understand the US government is OK with an officially translated copy of her USSR birth certificate for the K1 processing. Any experience you can share with either/or would be of great help.

Thank you,

Robert

We used a certified translation of Alyas original USSR birth certificate for the K-1 application, interview and AOS filing with no problems. Her Ukraine international passport will show nationality as Ukraine and place of birth Russia. No issues leaving the country.

Don't let what you cannot do interfere with what you can do.

Is her international passport based upon the Russian alphabet or Ukrainian? My wife had her passport updated just as we were starting the paperwork. The English translation of her name changed completely, so you might want to check on that before starting all the paperwork. But a certified translation of birth certificates or any other documents should be fine.

Good luck and be patient. You are in for a long journey.
