My wife and I currently rent a condo and have jobs. We plan to quit our jobs, move out, and hit the road for a few months or more, camping from San Diego to Alaska and back.

My wife's GC expires Sept. 23, 2012. Our relationship history is 110% legit. We have ample proof, etc.

The plan we would *like* to execute:

File I-751 90 days before Sept 23.

Give 1 month notice on our condo.

Secure a UPS mailbox (not a P.O. box).

Hit the road north, wait for NOA before we cross into Canada.

(Cross fingers, hoping for no request for biometrics or interview)

Alternate plans to work around not having a permanent address:

A. make my parents house our permanent and mailing address (they live in Michigan)

B. make a friends house (in San Diego) our permanent (and possibly mailing) address.

Questions:

1. Is it OK to have only a mailing address, not a permanent address while I-751 is pending?

2. If so, would we leave the permanent address field blank on I-751 and attach a note explaining the omission?

Thank you for any information. We are open to all suggestion and advice!

Kink in your plan is that biometrics is required so you wont be able to skip that. You WILL get a biometric appointment.

Your I-129f was approved in 5 days from your NOA1 date.

Your interview took 67 days from your I-129F NOA1 date.

AOS was approved in 2 months and 8 days without interview.

ROC was approved in 3 months and 2 days without interview.

Ah ok, did not know that. Thanks! And, shoot!

So, let's say we revised the plan to:

1. File

2. Wait for NOA and bio date

3. Give notice so that we could move out a week or so after the bio date

Would that (potentially) work?

Thanks again for replying.

Does anyone else have experience or advice regarding filing I-751 while traveling without a permanent (current) address?

Or, in other words, filing with *only* a mailing address listed?

Another thought we had was to use a lawyer for our mailing address. Is that an acceptable practice?

You need a physical address. I suggest you put your friends San Diego address as that is where you will end up which will help for an interview if you have one. Also, bear in mind you WILL be asked to do biometrics based on the physical address, AND in the event you are interviewed, your interview will be based on that address as well.

Please also know if for whatever reason your ROC is denied and you are out of the country you will have a hard time re-entering, if they permit you to enter at all. Also know that any time outside the US delays naturalisation.
