Hi,

We just had our AOS interview yesterday, in San Antonio Texas. I'm sure it differs from office to office, but our interview was fairly laid back and pretty easy. They went through the paperwork we'd submitted so far (with our i-485 and K-1 process) and confirmed some details. The lady we had was very friendly, she asked a little about how we met, and asked my son (K-2, 16 years old) a little about how he liked it here and if he missed Australia.

All I had for evidence of eligibility for lawful permanent residency was the I-94 and POE stamp and Visa inside my passport (they take the I-94 paper out at the interview), and proof of our marriage (certified copy of our marriage certificate, wedding photos, family photos of us together). She didnt even look at our wedding photos, and we had already submitted our marriage certificate with our I-485 AOS paperwork so she didn't need that.

For my husbands evidence of citizenship he took his passport and birth certificate. We took photocopies of everything, so we gave her a copy of his birth certificate as proof of his citizenship.

We also are in a situation of living in a family home, and we basically told her that we lived in a house that was own by a family member and did not have to pay rent. She did not ask us for proof at all.

The only thing we have in joint names is a joint bank account, which we gave her a copy of our bank statement to prove.

She didn't ask us for any other proof, and approved us on the spot, stamping our passports with the i-551 stamp.

I don't know if they would accept a letter from your parents or not, but it can't hurt to take one anyway.

I can't say that every interview in every USCIS office is going to go as easy as ours did, but that's what we experienced.

I was very nervous too, but in our case they didn't question us a great deal. I'm from Australia though, which is classed as a low risk country, so I don't know if it would be different for other countries or not.

Sorry I couldn't offer more help other than our own experience.

I wish you luck, let us know how you go. :)

I know this is a 5 month old thread but I'm wondering if you guys have the template for the parentals affidavit of the living arrangement? I'll be giving up my apartment soon and we'll be moving in with my mother's house for the sake of saving but will still pay rents and part of the utilities. I'll greatly appreciate it.

Thanks!

If possible try to have your name added to one of the utilities

this should be sufficient evidence in addition to any statement your parents provide.
