Hi! I am about to go for my medical in New Delhi. There are a few things that I wanted to know more about so I can go prepared. I would appreciate any help at all!

1. My visa interview is next month, i.e. June 2012, and I wanted to know how much in advance should I have my medical appointment scheduled?

2. How long do they take to give us the results?

3. If any of you have had your medical done, are the vaccines safe? Is it alright if they give a bunch of them together, as they probably will?

4. I had my varicella vaccine done today -just the first dose- at my local clinic. Will it be a problem getting the other vaccines now? (I believe someone who has gone through something similar can possibly answer this)

5. Do they run a tuberculosis skin test as well?

Thank you in advance.

Best Regards.

You will need to submit your medicals as well as other documents to VFS at least four working days prior to interview, so fix up an appointment for your medicals accordingly.

2. How long do they take to give us the results?

I'm not sure about Delhi hospitals, but Lilavati Hospital in Mumbai gave me my results the very next afternoon.

3. If any of you have had your medical done, are the vaccines safe? Is it alright if they give a bunch of them together, as they probably will?

The mandatory vaccines are MMR and TDAP, but I did have to get varicella shot too as I've never had chicken pox. No harm in getting 'em together.

4. I had my varicella vaccine done today -just the first dose- at my local clinic. Will it be a problem getting the other vaccines now? (I believe someone who has gone through something similar can possibly answer this)

None whatsoever.

5. Do they run a tuberculosis skin test as well?

No. What they do is take a chest x-ray as well as draw a blood sample to run tests on.

Thank you in advance.

Best Regards.

Thank you so much!!

Just another quick question: I've had my MMR and TDP when I was 16. But I don't believe I have the record. Do you think the doctor would be willing to discuss this before giving the shots to me? Have you and anyone had any reactions or side effects from these vaccines?

You need to have records. If not, you're just gonna have to go ahead with the shots one more time. I'd had my TDAP shot just a month prior, but sadly forgot to pick up a record of it, so had to get it again. As for reactions/side effects, none whatsoever. TDAP is usually given around your butt/hip area as it's an intramuscular injection. MMR, varicella, etc, are given on your upper arm.

This is really helpful! Thanks, Divs!
