Work in the US with sponsorship

Hi,

I need some advice please :)

I've been trawling internet pages trying to find the information that I need but there's hardly anything out there or the websites look really dodgey...

Basically I have had an offer for a US citizen to sponsor me so I can live with them in California. They have said that there is a job lined up for me as well.

I've been told that having a sponsor is a lot easier than just apply for a working visa, but I don't know too much about it.

Please can someone point me in the right direction of what I need to do next?

Thank you!

the sponsor applies for a work visa for you. you don't. you find an employer who can sponsor you with a work visa. the employer is the one that brings you here with a work visa, there are different types of work visas. the employer should have an attorney and they will apply for you if the employer is qualified.

If not for work visa, then what exactly would your sponsor sponsor you for?

if you read the OP is confused and thinks they are 2 different things. That's what I understood.

What type of work will you be doing and what are your qualifications?

Previous answer is correct in that the employer sponsors you (which can be expensive- upwards of $5000 for the visa).

Possibly.

Thank you for the replies!

The job is for an alternative make up / cosmetic company. I have the image they want to promote and it's an international company.

It's all very vague at the moment for details, but I was just at a loss where to begin!

I have GCSE's, A Levels and an NVQ, but nothing that relates to the job.

The sponsor has said I can live with them, they would pay for me until the first pay cheque I received then I could stay living with them and pay rent etc.

I know how difficult it is to get work, as I need to prove I am the best person for this job, and I'm not taking away from any US citizen.

The image they want? Are you a fashion model? If so, yes, there is a visa for that, H-1B3. To be eligible for this visa category you must be a fashion model of distinguished merit and ability.

Is it a reputable cosmetic company? How long have they been in business? Can you contact any of their business partners or clients to check them out? Did you run them through the Better Business Bureau website?

I know it's great to hear what you want to hear from people, but I would be VERY skeptical about this.

Don't we all.

I understand totally how this sounds, and I understand why you'd be skeptical!

The company is a very large and have been running for years. Sadly, I'm not a model... And I do have the feeling that what I'd offer for their job roles (sales rep, going to events and promoting products etc) could be filled by an American citizen.

The person who offered to let me live with them seemed sure that just by sponsoring me I could just move out there and apply for work whilst there. I'm unsure that this is right though...

I feel that this is something that perhaps isn't really realistic, as much as it seems like a dream job offer for me!

Have you spoken to Human Resources.

You need a Job Offer and a Visa to enter.
