Im still a bit confused as to why people are telling her nt to contact the USCIS. Unless you have been through it you just don't know. I have been through it. After she gets the NOA1 call the USCIS they willl instruct you what to write in the ltter and where to send it. It isn;t a waste of time if it prevents an RFE...and for me it did

They do need to be prepared in case it does not get matched up. Sometimes people send evidence before receiving an RFE, and it never gets put with their petition. Not saying that's going to happen, but we have to realize that what happens to some, doesn't happen to everyone. No harm in a phone call or a letter. All you're wasting is some time and the money for a postage stamp if it doesn't end up with your petition. And if it does, it was all worth it :)

Exactly. I can't see the harm in trying. Worst case, I get an RFE....same as if I did nothing.

Thanks to all those who had positive responses!

I was just wondering if anyone else has ever found that they had made an error on their petition and had it dealt with differently, for example, receiving an RFE instead. Or am I destined to go through all of the hassle that I read about? I know I can't know what will happen with our case but I would feel better if I knew there was a chance that it might be ok or be dealt with more efficiently, it would make me feel better.

Lucy

I feel you should relax, if you sent it recently - you can as well re-send the form.

Yesterday i mailed my DS -230 and the dates that show where you 've lived for 16yrs, i omitted on last address - that would add up to 16yrs, all i did was send a new form next day and a short note.

true..but you told her she had to wait for an RFE...and that is not true at all...trust me..been there, done that...even if they say no...at least she tried. For me it worked in my favor. It worth calling and not having to sit waiting and worrying

I don't think it can hurt, but then again I think it just depends who you get reviewing your case.

Thank you for all the helpful and reassuring responses!

Sk8rpatty, I feel both bad that my post made you worry but also good that you can try and rectify it like me! Good luck with everything!

Mimolicious, I'm going ask my fiance to ring the USCIS as soon as we get the NOA1 hardcopy, which hopefully will be soon. Which number did you call? Can you give us any other details about what you said to them over the phone? I know this might seem like a silly question, but I want to be clear on what to tell my fiance to say. Even though he's fluent in English, his first language is Spanish so I just want to make sure he fully understands :)

Anyways, just wanted to say that yes, obviously NOT making an error on the form would have been ideal, but you know, we're human and we make mistakes. I am a worrier, I spent weeks stressing about the petition and did check it numerous times - I'm not someone who is usually careless with these things - but unfortunately still missed this. It happens. I'm so grateful to those of you who responded in a helpful way. Whether the letter we write gets matched up with the file or not, I feel better about being given a chance to correct the error. If it isn't and we still get an RFE then I'm more than happy with that! Anything to try and avoid the hassle the poster from the thread I linked to earlier went through.

I concur with LeftCoastLady. From my own perspective, I knew that I would drive myself insane doing the "coulda...woulda..shoulda" and trying to "second-guess myself" manners of thought, waiting and worrying right after I mailed the initial petition. From my own life experiences, I realized I had to submit a petition that was as "bullet-proof" as I could make it the first time. For me, it just came down to basics, have a plan of action, be patient, read and heed all of the instructions very carefully. When I completed the petition, I put it away for a couple of days, then went back and reviewed the entire document for errors of omission and commission. When I submitted my petition, I was satisfied and confident that I had done the best job on it that I could. The result.....NO RFEs !!!!

YMMV

Sorry....I just had to come back here and respond.

I was APPROVED in 87 days!!! NO RFE, yep, NO RFE!:dance::rofl:

Thanks! I was an emotional wreck back when this thread came up. Beating myself up horribly for leaving a couple stupid blanks on my form. I did call and they said it was best to wait for the RFE so after that and reading all the discussion here, I decided to wait. I was SURE I was going to get one or my package was going to be rejected. It's stupid to stress so much over something so little, but I did.

Anyway I was beyond thrilled to see that I was approved and no RFE. The package as a whole was solid, so I guess they were able to overlook one little mistake. My fiance had been telling me this all along. I did do my research but I pulled it together quickly (6 days) and wished I had taken another week to more thoroughly check it.
