Yeppers, RI has a few of them. Inlaws live in Middletown RI (close to Newport) and I know of at least 2 within a 20 min drive.

Canadians Visiting the USA while undergoing the visa process, my free advice:

1) Always tell the TRUTH. never lie to the POE officer

2) Be confident in ur replies

3) keep ur response short and to the point, don't tell ur life story!!

4) look the POE officer in the eye when speaking to them. They are looking for people lieing and have been trained to find them!

5) Pack light! No job resumes with you

6) Bring ties to Canada (letter from employer when ur expected back at work, lease, etc etc)

7) Always be polite, being rude isn't going to get ya anywhere, and could make things worse!!

8) Have a plan in case u do get denied (be polite) It wont harm ur visa application if ur denied, that is if ur polite and didn't lie! Refer to #1

I will sneak in here though that I really, really, really would like a Tim Horton's Coffee.

If any of you are in the Philadelphia area, give Wawa a try for coffee. It's just as addicting to us as Tim's is to you. In fact, I took a bag of it on my first visit and my fiancee's dad said it was better than Tim's, and we all know coffe is never as good when you make it at home than it is at the store.

 shopping!!!! Anne Taylor. Lord and Taylor. :)

In Massachusetts, clothing has 0% tax!!!! After 15% tax in Ontario, this is AMAZING. AND, everytime you go into the store, they ALWAYS have something on sale!!!! Upto the minute fashion, and amazing sales.

Massachusetts has this 0% tax day every year called black Wednesdays (?) (I think). Anyhow, last year, my hubby and I went into the stores thinking we could get 0% tax on our clothes we bought that day. I was wondering why there not hordes of line ups at the clothing counters cause this was better than boxing day in Canada ever could be. I didn't realize why, until the following week when I bought some item of clothing and noted that I had 0% tax on my clothes (and it wasn't black Wednesday)

Unfortunately, California doesn't have Lord and Taylor :crying: And the sale racks seem to be a bit more depleted than massachusetts.... and... the taxes are higher. :crying:

Ah but I guess the sunshine  makes up for it.... perhaps they won't notice me wearing summer clothes all year round? ;)

Also other plus factors:

-amazing food choices in grocery stores. Why doesn't canada have that?

-amazing waiter service in Boston. no attitidue

-amazing hot bread rolls in Boston

-amazing ethnic cuisine in California. Just recently found this amazing Indian restaurant there.

well start in Huntington Beach at a place called Los Primos. The best damn black bean & rice burrito, it's huge and $3.11 with tax. Have it with the medium (tomatillo) salsa and of course CHEESE.

Then make your way to Long Beach and have a bean & cheese burrito, (ask for it toasted), at Hole Mole. Get a side of the extra hot salsa. OMGosh my mouth is watering!!

Then find your way to Chipotle. Get the chicken burrito, ask for a lil extra on the black beans, lots of the mild salsa, a drizzle of the hot. Cheese & sour cream and you're in heaven.

I have been all over London since I got here trying to find anything remotely like my 3 favorite burritos from home, and well, I will have to wait until I get home......

True, Herr's is not a very good brand.

But couldn't ketchup chips be acheived by simply buying PLAIN chips (such as UTZ) and a bottle of ketchup?

I'm actually somewhat embarrassed to admit that I've done that...I've taken plain, ordinary potato chips and used ketchup with them. It tastes pretty good too. :P

I don't think I've ever heard of Herr's. I don't buy potato chips much. When I do get something salty and crunchy, it's usually tortilla chips and salsa.

What is it with this particular forum and food? Now I'm hungry and I don't have anything in my apartment! :o
