Greetings everyone,

When I met my husband I asked him to get his transcript from Lagos State Polytechnic. It's been over a year and he's gone there three times asking. He's been told people before him still have not gotten theirs. Is it a waste of time and money to tip these people for something the US educational system will spit out like it's rancid?

Would it be best that we look into starting from the ground up or see how his HND will convert?

Thank you for your thoughts!

Polytechnic? Dont even bother tipping anyone. I graduated from a university in nigeria. Couldnt get it the transcript before i left. Spend alot of money to get it when i got it. Bottomline, i was being sent a fake transcript(Its Naija)

my husband graduated from a Polytechnic. He spent time calling the school and people he knew in the school..... Sent money to get it done.... Finally, the said they mailed it to WES...... WES has it but dont think we would convert it.

Personally to me, Its not worth it for Polytechnic. Thats just me ! Especially if he is looking into the medical field.

In that case, since the degree is similar...Its doable.

But tipping someone to get it done is my wahala. Once people know you are out of the country and u need them to do something... They always put their own selfish interest ahead of your issue. Wishing you all d best

It may not be worth his time, when Joseph wanted his evaluated they insisted that it come directly from the University in Nigeria. It seems they have seen way too many fake Nigerian transcripts from immigrants that they won't acccept them directly from the immigrant anymore.

This will not be over quickly. You will not enjoy this.

IMHO, regardless of it's potential usefulness in the USA, or not, personal copies of ALL certificates that have been earned should be pursued with deliberate haste. It get's infinitely messier when you have to ask loved ones to get it for you later.

Bribery, hassles, procedural frustration, etc all are the norm in Nigeria hence why almost everybody wants to flee at all cost. It's an abrnormal way of life that is standard issue in Nigeria.

Grrrrr...I see the bribe is going to be inevitable. What's an acceptable amount to make someone get off their rump and do what they should do by virtue of their job??

I'm not convinced that a bribe is necessary at this point especially if there's no hurry yet. It may require repeated visits and definitely tenacity.

Have him inquire on NairaLand, perhaps a student there may know or better yet join that Facebook page I linked earlier, someone on their may know someone if he inquires surreptitiously.

If push comes to shove, just ask someone in authority at the school and then negotiate the "Document Release Fee".

This is what i think he should do.If he studied in the school then he should still have the link to some people that work there, maybe a lecturer or someone in the non-academic teaching staff Units.Speak to them about it and they will advice him on who to see to make it work fast or easy at least even if he has to tip them to do their job..He can also meet with present students to find out any influential student that is allowed in n out of the offices there, that person can be an instrument to him getting his transcript. Its possible to get it under a week or two if you have the link, its not the money that matters most times, its the right person to help you around to get what you want especially in this case.

As per transferring his HND credit, its advised cos on the long run it saves you guys some cash, cos it cuts the years he will have to spend to get his degree in Public Admin.
