Well, the exit tax - which has been around for half a century - was tightened in 2004 by an all Republican Congress and signed by a Republican President. The change to the exit tax where one is now taxed on unrealized gains passed both houses of an all Democrat Congress without a single nay vote and was signed into law by a Republican President. But hey, why worry about reality when fiction makes for better much outrage?

As usual, you missed the point, so no surprise here. The key word was "progressives," you do know they sit on both sides of the aisle or is that news to you? Kind of hard for you to admit you're aware of that now -- that would make you and your ("But hey, why worry about reality when fiction makes for better much outrage?") comment look rather silly. A progressive with an 'R' or a 'D' after his/her name is still a progressive.

I could care less who votes for or causes the grab bag of confiscatory taxes to be sustained so the clowns in D.C. can continue to piss the money away, the results are the same.

I would just like to add that the Gross Value of your estate must exceed $5,120,000 before a return has to be filed and the tax on the estate has to exceed $1,772,800. before you owe any tax. I seriously doubt anybody posting on this forum has an estate that would have to pay tax if that person were to die.

I re-read the thread and realized that I posted the above comment in regards to the wrong post. The above statement is in regards to the "Death Tax" and not the "Exit Tax."

Who do you think should pay for government? You do realize that it costs money to build roads, bridges, schools, airports, harbors, pay policemen, firemen, judges, jailers, military members, buy guns, tanks, planes, bombs, missiles etc, etc, etc!!! You seem to expect a free ride. Why? If you don't like it here why do you stay?

Eduardo Saverin actually owes a lot to America and wouldn't be wealthy (or at least not have the facebook fortunes) without it. He never would have met Mark Zuckerberg (educated in public schools) and he never would have kept his stake in it thanks to the US justice system.

So you're saying that there wasn't a single conservative in the 110th Congress? That it was an all progressive Congress? Good to know.

You must be off your meds today or you had a big drink of that liberal Kool-aid early. There is a major difference between paying for things that are within the scope of govt and "confiscatory taxes to be sustained so the clowns in D.C. can continue to piss the money away," not surprised you see no distinction between necessary spending and tax money pissed away.

Nah, my meds are just fine. And we know there is no cure for your problem! The problem with your 'logic' is that 'necessary spending' is defined differently by different people. I think they are pissing away the money when they give subsidies to big oil. Mitt thought they were pissing away the money when they helped GM and Chrysler survive. Fortunately your opinion about what is necessary is only that, YOUR opinion. The collective opinions of the entire voting public is what matters and unfortunately for you, their conclusions can have binding consequences relative to tax policy. Tough!

You don't think progressives masquerade as conservatives?

Define conservative and tell me how that applies to policies that allow our environment to be destroyed, government to intrude on how people want to conduct their personal relationships in private, and how it justifies subsidizing industries like big oil?!!

Yes, there is no cure for the love of liberty, freedom and limited Constitutional govt! The problem with your logic (more like, lack of) about spending is the best example of why the country is sinking in red ink, tax and spend is the extent of your understanding of economics.

GM and Chrysler could have gone through the normal bankruptcy process like thousands of other large and small companies had done before, what happened there was Obama's royal screwing of bond holders and other creditors and simply handing the majority share of that company to the unions. Of course you don't have the intellectual honest to say that. Just as you lack intellectual integrity regarding "subsidies to big oil." Therefore, you don't know any better than to repeat the Obama/liberal lie about subsidies -- earth-to-James, they get tax breaks just like any other industry.

]"subsidies to big oil."[/u][/i] the Obama/liberal lie about subsidies , they get tax breaks just like any other industry.

Wrong! Tax breaks are not given to all industries. And a tax break IS a form of subsidy. If you provide services you have a right to expect payment and when you receive it that money is yours. The same is true for government. It provides many services to citizens and businesses. Taxes are how that is paid for. You pretend to be patriotic but you don't believe in paying your fair share. Why?

I think the fact that Uncle Sam will tax you wherever you go in the world is a key consideration for those considering becoming citizens and maybe moving back to their home countries one day.

Well you can always renounce it later, if need be.
