How early can I book the medical?

We are in the last stages of NVC, just paid the IV fee today, and hopefully will then be able to email out the DS-260 document packets Monday/Tuesday and should hope to have an interview scheduled by the end of May.

How early can my spouse schedule the Medical Exam? We're expecting the interview to probably be scheduled sometime in July, however my wife has a really busy late June schedule, and so she wanted to know if she can schedule the medical now in early June. Is it ok if her medical is 4-6 weeks (estimating here) before the Interview date?

I would suggest posting this question in the May 2012 NVC thread. One of the moderators of that thread is from Canada. In our case we had to wait until we had the interview letter before my wife could attend her medical interview.

If the NVC continues to follow recent trends you will probably find out your interview date during the first two weeks of June (assuming you have a case complete by then). The interview will likely be in July.

the NVC and the consulate specifically states that you should not book the appointment for medical until your interview has been scheduled

you cannot attend the medical without having the appointment letter in hand

This might be a consular thing then... in Russia I've heard of people not scheduling their interviews yet when they go to the medical... approved yes, but no interview date yet.

no it is not a consular thing. would you like to see my letter from the NVC regarding the medical exams? my husband was approved 2 days ago. they will not do your medical WITHOUT that letter regardless of what you have heard. perhaps they made a medical appt and were lucky enough to get their interview scheduled in time to receive the letter. Nothing in this process is exact. The NVC should have only taken me 2 weeks at the most, we have an electronic case..everything is sent via email. Instead we have been stuck at the NVC for 6 weeks due to their errors in processing. Had my husband made his appt for medical based on what time frames should have been, he would have been out of luck. I know it is hard to wait, it is for all of us, but why rush it only to have to postpone or cancel it? cool.gif

There are a few countries where you can schedule medical exam before receiving interview date - UK is one and I can't remember others off the top of my head.

Canada you definitely need the interview date and take letter to medical with you.

OMG I am so frustrated at the doctors at my local clinic...

I went in and told them I wanted a Tetanus shot and an antibody titers test so it can show that I have had all my vacs when I was a kid, as I had no proof but I know they were done.

They asked me why I wanted them and I told them it was for an IV and the doctor tried telling me I needed 3 or 4 additional shots as well (TB test, HIV, Syphilis, Hep A/B/C)

They were also trying to talk me into a chest x-ray too and I had to flat out tell them NO!....

I already checked the panel physicians website and spoke to the medical peeps in T.o. so I knew I did not need all of that. I finally settled with them and told them that as long as I am not going to have to pay anything out of pocket they could do whatever they think they need to...So I did end up getting TB test, and a full diagnostic screening for antibodies.

Went back today for the results and they tell me that I do not have any antibodies for Hep B according to the results so now they want me to get that too..

We were actually going back today to have our kids get their Hep B shots anyway and I was just about to give the ok for it for myself but then they were out of the vaccine for the kids so we have to go back and get them done anyway so we put mine on hold too....Fortunately..... because I checked the website when I got home it says that Hep B is not required for my age bracket. I called the pharmacy and told them to cancel the script for my Hep B which saved me $100 since it is not covered.

I think the doctor at the clinic I am going to is just doing anything he can to rack up and bill as much as he can on each one of our health cards.
