I read all about that ITIN a few days ago and saw a youtube of it too. That's quite the "understanding" going on between government IRS and illegals.

You say your MIL is not taking advantage of the situation and you want to do everything within the law. Really???

Let's look at the bottom line here

1. MIL comes here on a tourist visa and overstays and now lives here.

2. MIL is now working here illegally.

3, IF MIL goes back to Costa Rica you and your wife can't afford schooling so it sounds like she is giving you what little she earns to keep you and your wife going. She is living with her employers so has room and board provided for herself with them so she can afford to give you what little she does earn.

Yeah I can see why you want to keep the family together. If she goes back to Costa Rica you're out wages. That would be inconvenient. :(

Good heavens. :bonk: Can't you see it's illegals who make it so difficult for the legals? Then everyone complains about the system taking so long.

I have nothing positive to add to this thread nor any solution or easy fix for the OP.

If this gets me thread banned then so be it.

Good luck. You're going to need it!!

Pardon, but how does his situation have any affect on you at all? Are they really making it difficult for you? I don't think so...

Unnecessary meanness and a bitter attitude is all that was.

I don't have any advice for the OP. But he came here to ask for help and suggestions, not to be attacked for the actions of his MIL and family. I don't understand why people feel the need to pass judgement when clearly he just is asking if others have been through anything similar. This is America at some point our relatives immigrated from other countries, If you can't help him why put your 2 cents in?. Just sayin' cool.gif

His wife should get a pass because she is seeking to adjust through her Husband.

Her mother would only complicate the issue if the daughter lied about her when answering specific and definitive question about her location.

Will her mother suffer consequences, well probably not, but then again she could be picked up and deported tomorrow theoretically.

Probably more likely she would be run over by a bus.

His wife does not need a waiver, his mil is not eligible for one. So what would I2US add to the equation?

I agree. His situation is fairly straightforward. The MIL is not in the equation so we may as well stop talking about her, the chances of them asking about her are nil and if they do, they just be honest and answer every question briefly, precisely and concisely - easy.

It won't have any affect on their app.

Actually I work for a living. I don't need my mother in law for wages. My wife needs her mother for school. I'm just coming into this equation. Infact we would probably doing really well if my generation wasn't saddled with a shitty economy from your generation Annie. I'd probably be making 20 grand more. Thanks for the rude criticism...but then agian what do you except from someone like you who's generation saddles unsustainable debt on your children. Of course your gonna take the blame off of you and your age, it's obvious I must be lazy and not work...
