The obvious solution is for her Mother to find a USC to marry.

Her Immigration issues are hers, not yours or your wife's. She chose the route she took, she deals with the consequences.

Its true her issues are hers. Still not a fun situation.

What does your wife think? Is she willing to risk her mother getting deported?

Foreign Student rates?

Private University actually. There is no foregin student rate at this private.

What does your wife think? Is she willing to risk her mother getting deported?

We will find out. Probably yes. Im sure her mother will be okay with it to. She is a very selfless person. We still would like to see her stay though, espically legally.

Millions of illegal immigrants are getting a bigger tax refund than you.

Bob Segall, of WTHR reports finding a massive tax loophole that provides billions of dollars in tax credits to undocumented workers and, in many cases, people who have never stepped foot in the United States. And you are paying for it.

Inside his central Indiana office, a longtime tax consultant sits at his desk, shaking his head in disbelief.

“There is not a doubt in my mind there’s huge fraud taking place here,” he said, slowly flipping through the pages of a tax return.

The tax preparer does not want you to know his name for fear of reprisal, but he does want you to know about a nationwide problem with a huge price tag.

He came to 13 Investigates to blow the whistle.

“We’re talking about a multi-billion dollar fraud scheme here that’s taking place and no one is talking about it,” he said.

The scheme involves illegal immigrants — illegal immigrants who are filing tax returns.

How it works

The Internal Revenue Service says everyone who is employed in the United States – even those who are working here illegally – must report income and pay taxes. Of course, undocumented workers are not supposed to have a social security number. So for them to pay taxes, the IRS created what’s called an ITIN, an individual taxpayer identification number. A 9-digit ITIN number issued by the IRS provides both resident and nonresident aliens with a unique identification number that allows them to file tax returns.

While that may have seemed like a good idea, it’s now backfiring in a big way.

Each spring, at tax preparation offices all across the nation, many illegal immigrants are now eagerly filing tax returns to take advantage of a tax loophole, using their ITIN numbers to get huge refunds from the IRS.

The loophole is called the Additional Child Tax Credit. It’s a fully-refundable credit of up to $1000 per child, and it’s meant to help working families who have children living at home.

But many undocumented workers are claiming the tax credit for kids who live in Mexico – lots of kids in Mexico.

“We’ve seen sometimes 10 or 12 dependents, most times nieces and nephews, on these tax forms,” the whistleblower said. “The more you put on there, the more you get back.”

“If you know the enemy and know yourself, you need not fear the result of a hundred battles. If you know yourself but not the enemy, for every victory gained you will also suffer a defeat. If you know neither the enemy nor yourself, you will succumb in every battle.”

Im sure people take advantages of stuff like this. My mother in law has one child...and she lives here. Not in costa rica. I am not saying illegals dont take advantage of things. I am just saying my MIL hasnt. I'm pretty sure she doesnt get this credit too. She got a very small rebate last year. There are a lot of USC that take advantage of the tax code as well. The Tax system is F*cked up. your not the first person to realize this.

I don't blame anyone who lives in certain other countries for wanting to live here. If I lived in some of those places, I'd probably try to get here too. I do blame the people here who employee illegal immigrants. In most cases, they are taking advantage of cheap labor and ignoring the law. No excuse for that. And there's really no excuse for a police officer, who should have the highest respect for the law, to do it.

That said, I don't envy your wife's position at all. It's a tough decision with potentially scary consequences.

Agreed. They take advantage of my MIL reguarly. They pay her bad, and over work her as well. She is illegal so it comes with the territory. Then agian im a USC, get paid bad, and am over worked LOL. Whats funny is her bosses are legal immigrants from India. They came over here LEGALLY, break all our rules, treat their workers like #### (most are legal) and they are succesful. I hate the situation we are in...i didnt create it. Im just trying to fix it within the law.

I believe all of California has that policy, now. I don't think they tell the police to illegally employee them, however.

Important to the Politicians!

Since I got married last years, so does that mean I can apply a ITIN for my stepson who is going to be with me soon and I paid all his expenses etc, to claim the "Additional Child Tax Credit"? OR, I can file an 1040X amendment to claim the credit I should get?

You are not Mexican, I think it is a get out for Mexicans and theoretically Canadians.

Note I think, check with your CPA.
