Hello Vjers,

Wishing you all that waiting one thing or the other goodluck!

As you all know Social security number is vital in all that relates public service;my wife has no recollection of her number due to her long absence from States though she got her lost passport re issued here in Johannesburg and was advised to apply for Social Security number while in States as its faster to assign or replace her with a new card or number.

Now we have her ticket ready to travel to States to get essentially her domicile re established to ensure that she meets up the requirements to sponsor me her husband as my 1 130 petition was approved recently entitling me an Immigrant visa.

??????????????

1. How long does it take to get a new Social Security number assigned to a USC in the States?

2. Can she go to IRS to file back her previous tax returns without a Social Security number?

3. Can she open Bank Accounts without Social Security number?

4. Register to vote without Social Security number?

5. Incorporate a Corporation without Social Security number?

I will appreciate your contribution to the questions above.

Many thanks and regards,

Handsome

1. She won't get a new number. They will find her old number based on personal information and reissue the SS card.

2. I don't quite understand what you meant by "file back her previous tax returns", but if you're asking about filing the back taxes, the answer is no.

3. Depends on the bank.

4. Voter registration is done at county level. Depends on the county.

5. Not sure, but I doubt it.

If all that needs to be done is replace her social security card, last time I was there they told me 10-14 days by mail. As for the other items, to the best of my knowledge her social security number would be needed. If she has ever filed taxes, the IRS office would have her social security number on record as well.

Thanks for your response. She had never filed taxes...,
