Filing I-130 As LPR soon to be USC

Not sure where this should be posted, USC forum or here since it involves both.

Hello,

I assume that applying as early as possible for the I-130 is the best thing that can be done in order to get a Priority Date.

Now, my question is, if I submit my I-130 application in mid-June, then become a USC in Aug. How much would that be of benefit, once I submit a letter to the processing office asking for my petition to be upgraded to immidiate family member, would that priority date (mid-June) still be the actual date, if so, does that mean (given a 6 month processing period) that my wife would be close to getting her acceptance/CR1 around Dec?

I would really appreciate anyone's comments on this subject/idea, even better someone who has been through a similar situation.

Yep. If you upgrade the petition, it will be processed within normal processing time for USCs, and the same priority date. If you get a June priority date, and then become a USC, it should be approved by November/December.

I did the same thing u are doing, if I knew ne better I would have filed my I-130 sooner.

I notice you became a USC en of Nov., but only upgraded the petition in Jan, when did you send the letter petitioning the upgrade? Did you wait a month before sending it or did it take that long to get processed?

Do you still have it? I would need a sample in the next few months if its not too much to ask...

this is exacly how it went:

I took my Oath on Nov 28th 2011 and got my certificate. On Nov 29 2011 (next day) I emailed the and mailed the upgrade. I called to find out if they got it and the operator said she will put in a survice request. On December 6th i received and email asking me to fax it to USCIS, so i did RIGHT away. the next week on December 13th i received all my Docs from the upgrade that i sent to them (i was very confused). i think they say it like 15 business days to Upgrade. every time I called they seemed confused. so on Jaunary 5th i called to reconferm that it was done and was told yes. then just to make sure i called again in FEB befor it hit NVC. Keep in mind that all this was happening arround christmas and new years holiday so that why i thook longer to get an answer.

Thanks for your help, I am sure moving forward this will be of help to others as well.

I will keep these handy to use as templates for when I finish my naturalization (waiting on interview appt.).

I am getting married next Friday and should be sending the I130 the first week in June.

on the upgrade letter you should have sent a copy of your citizenship naturalization certificate or a copy of your us passport,hope thay accept the naturalization number,good luck.
