If they are worried about criminal stuff, then he can provide a copy of his police cert if you that is something you feel comfortable with. They are using a service that does background checks through a set system, and he won't be in the system as a new immigrant. You could point out that the US government has done a much more thorough background check on him very recently and he passed.

A separate thing is his credit score. Having a bank or a credit union won't give him any score at all - that is not the issue. He will need to get credit and use it to make a score. His number is still good for work (if he has the other things he needs) so his lack of score says nothing about his ability to work, something that make people confused. Some companies check the credit score to make sure the person isn't skipping out on a ton a bills. I don't know what the legality of that is.

Thank you all for your replies, maybe I was just a little paranoid and protective or maybe the company was just overzealous with paperwork. They wanted a drug test, background check, and credit check apparently.

Good news is, today was his first day of work! Yay! He was so determined to start working and he did.

And, no more filling out applications and being asked for IDs, SSN.
