How is it not on topic? No one is forcing anyone to go to bars, but no one is forcing you to smoke either. I must have missed that smoking in bars and restaurants was necessary in order to enjoy them.

I must have missed the point as to where the private business owner has the choice to allow smoking or not to allow smoking. Just like someone has the choice to enter said private business.

"I want to take this opportunity to mention how thankful I am for an Obama re-election. The choice was clear. We cannot live in a country that treats homosexuals and women as second class citizens. Homosexuals deserve all of the rights and benefits of marriage that heterosexuals receive. Women deserve to be treated with respect and their salaries should not depend on their gender, but their quality of work. I am also thankful that the great, progressive state of California once again voted for the correct President. America is moving forward, and the direction is a positive one."

Okay we'll agree to disagree, I salute your debating skills. It's refreshing actually.

Let's celebrate our differences. :D

Fair enough.

Sir, why are you purposely trying to promote yourself as uneducated?

How is fascism even part of this dialogue?

It's a part of the dialogue because you believe in majority rule. This country is founded on the idea AGAINST majority rule. It's why we are not a true democracy by any means. Although that's been bastardized/altered over the last century.

You have to understand that fascists belong in a very strong central, almost authoritative government that dictates based on the overwhelming majority. If the overwhelming majority want a smoking ban and you're a smoker, watch out. You might just see your death.

It applies here because the people who are anti-smoking have no regards for a private establishment, a private owner, etc. All they want is it THEIR way. If the business won't do it THEIR way, then they will force them to at the hands of the government.

Liberty is not what you are preaching. What you are preaching is tyranny of the majority, which 9/10 ends up being a fascist state.

Cf. yesterday's vote in North Carolina on gay marriage.

and you're right. If marriage on a state level will have any perks on that level, then the state should not be able to discriminate against people who want to be joined together under that government contract.

Of course the easiest way out of any of this is to abolish marriage from government and give to completely to the individuals, etc. However people want what they've always had and don't want others to touch it, but in government if there's a 'benefit' then they have to give it to everyone who enters that contract together. Especially in a day and age where we don't want more people breeding, so there really is no social benefit to marriage...

What right would that be? Does one have the right to smoke? Where is that right documented? The constitution?

life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. i'm a lot happier if i have a cig. i'm quite hostile if i haven't.

Well, you can have a cig. You just can't have someone else breathe your smoke. They have a right to life, too, you know?

I think non smokers that choose to go into private establishments that allow smoking should have their head examined when they cry and whine about it later. It just proves my theory that non smokers have a lower IQ than smokers.

It is amusing isn't it? It's like the idiots who keep slapping themself on the knee with a baseball bat... "ow this hurts" -- Does it again -- "ow this hurts" --- and so on and so on...

What gets me is the non smokers could choose to stay out of smoking establishments rather than impose their will upon others. If non smoking establishments were such a big hit you wouldn't see bars closing down due to lack of business. Especially in cold weather climates. Apparently the right to choose isn't in their thought waves. I think it goes right over their head.
