hello all VJ's

im about to freak out and break something..

its the typical mail issue...

our lovely apartment management doesnt want to accept any mail from me, doesnt want to put me on my husband lease and doesnt want us to move out b4 the current lease is up.

so we thought putting our mail on hold would be a good solution. we did that, thought it worked out. then out of nowhere my husband found some mail ( addressed to him) in the mail box? we both were a lil confused and i went to our great mail office. and got told oh yeah u cant hold mail on that address. they get the mail in the office, put it in the mail box, when u wanna forward mail it goes first to them and then back to the post office.

i know doesnt make sense at all, not sure if that is even legal???

so i called the USCIS hotline and oh surprise they send out my NOA's already and my Biometric appointment what i have nxt week now. the uscis were really nice and told me i need to call them again early next week and give them a fax number so they going to fax me the biometric appointment, what i need.

but they dont even got mail back ,the mail they send wasnt send back. means its sitting in the management office at the apartment complex. awesome right???

ok quick question on my vent ranting here can i use private mailbox as my address for the uscis?? not a PO box one of those private mailboxes where u get a street address and a suite number?? do they accept that??? because on the uscis website it says u cant use PO boxes.

im sorry about that but im all mad now and my blood pressure is going nutts, needed to vent i guess..

but it would be great if you guys have any experience on the private mailbox

thank you, going to get me a glass of wine now lol

Sorry it took me so long to respond. It's illegal to charge double rent. They could probably charge you an application fee to put you on the lease, but I don't think they can refuse to put you on the lease, since you are legally married and your husband is legally responsible for the lease. I would talk to a lawyer if they continue to give you trouble. Furthermore, it would be illegal for them to take your mail I believe. Does your husband have relatives there that you can use as the address for USCIS in the meantime?

I just had a quick browse on google and apparently it is illegal to withhold mail.

I would advise getting your husband to check with the office if they accidentally "forgot" to put it in your mailbox before you file a complaint.

No problem! I would be very upset if I was you too! I do think you should make a complaint if you know they are withholding your mail. It wouldn't hurt to ask the office if they "forgot" to put it in your mailbox first though. You could tell them you know some documents were sent out but they were never put in your mailbox or returned to the sender, so you wanted to check that they hadn't got "mislaid" in their office somewhere. They might give them to you if you're nice about it, which would save you the headache of the fax. Hope you get this resolved and move somewhere with better managers! :)
