I-797 Notice of Action question

Hi all,

I got the official I-797 Notice of Action saying they approved our I-130. The letter said they sent the original visa petition to the Department of State National Visa Center in Portsmouth, NH. It mentions we should wait for correspondence (instructions) within 30 days. Is this the usual time frame or has anyone contacted the embassy or NVC earlier then that? Thanks for any help again!

Jenny

Well actually, you won't get anywhere calling from the next day. Lately it's been taking 3-4 weeks for NVC to assign case numbers. I suggest you join the May 2012 NVC thread and read the first post thoroughly. It'll give you a good idea of what to expect and you can chat with people currently going through NVC. If you just got your NOA2, then you must wait now for USCiS to send your file over to NVC. nVC will receive your file but they may not actually assign it a case number until a few weeks (which is what really matters). I personally waited a week after my NOA2 to start calling NVC to see if they received my case and if they had my case number ready. Chek out my timeline. The wait has only gotten worse than this. Many people ahead of you for weeks are still waiting for their case numbers (check out that thread and feel free to ask many questions). I suggest you have your AOs and IV packets ready to go. Read post 1 in that thread. I can't stress it enough. It contains valuable info that you'll need. Take care!!! Feel free to message me as well...

Yea, if you look at the spreadsheet Saylin created (in her signature), you'll see that no one with an NOA2 date past April 5 has gotten a case number from NVC yet... they're having a serious backlog with receiving cases/assigning case #s lately... the most recent cases to get case #s are from April 2 - 5 and even some that were left over from end of March... they send the files out in batches from USCIS and they sit in the mail room for a little while before they assign them #s... check out that spreadsheet in Saylin;s profile... it gives u a good idea of where you might stand timewise...
