Well..Divs I congratulate u once again for ur Visa Approval...I would like to ask u some questions regarding Interview and Mumbai Consulate which u have posted //

How do they interview applicants i mean in the order they are placed n queque before entering consulate or randomly...??

After ur Biometrics same time u r Interviewed for Initial screening or after that and who interviews u first...Indian Officer or American Officer???

Were u asked for a translator or they started to interview u in ur native language or in English???

When applicants are answering ....what actually does Consular Officers observe i.e. their body language or the way they answer or... ??? Coz if anybody is lying how do they conclude whether the guy is lying or not before them..???

How should we behave in front of CO..... with a smile, politely or...with a scary face coz all r nervous during Interview???

Dis they asked u abt photos and proof of ongoing relationship with the petitioner or latest tax returns coz proof of ongoing relationship and photos r being asked to all visa cases irrespective of category...

If translator is used do CO tells him/her the questions to be asked to us and then he/she asks us or CO straightway asks us and we have to answer the translator in our native language????

How much time did it took for ur First INterview i.e. Initial screening and approximately how much time for final Interview with CO.???

Can we listen behind the window what CO and translator talk about our case???

Finally, according to u what is the most important thing we all should be prepared about during Interview........What is that they r judging in all applicants actually????

Well..i know there r a lot questions but i will be thankful if u answer them....

Thanking You

Hi, my entire consular review has been posted for the consulate. You might want to look that up to see the questions I was asked. As for initial screening, it's done by an Indian officer. I wasn't asked if I wanted a translator, probably cos I was already talkin to him in English and he could see that I was comfortable. But yes, most of the others were asked if they needed a translator. You're called for biometrics as well as interview in the order of your token number. In my case, I had around 20 or more people ahead of me, so I had to wait for over three hours for my interview after the biometrics. The consular officer doesn't even look at you. They throw questions at you and are listening and verifying the information on the computer. There will be an Indian officer with them, whose sole job I guess is to observe your body language. my thoughts to you is not to appear nervous at any cost. Be calm and confident. Do not volunteer any information. Answer to the point. Do not try to be overly friendly. That's about it. If there's anything more you'd like to know, do leave a comment.

Thanks Divs for sharing your interview experience. One question from your review: Were you and your husband previously married? Or was that a false question they were asking you to see if you are revealing something not mentioned in application?

I think from Divs recent feedback and my sister-in-law's feedback (she also had interview at Mumbai consulate for immigration visa few years ago), I can say that you should follow this:

1. BE YOURSELF. Don't try to be too smart or too scared, just be yourself and be relaxed as if you are having a casual conversation with someone. Inappropriate behavior leads to more questions in interview and more drilling to find out if your relation is legal or trying to hide something.

2. Bring *ALL* evidence that you have which may help to prove your present and if applicable also bring evidence for prior relationships (proof to show your previous relationship is ended gracefully). Carrying more documents (such as wedding photos, outdoor photos for any trip with your spouse, email/chat logs, phone logs etc.) will not hurt but will make your case solid enough to get approval instantly.

3. Most importantly don't try to answer a question if you don't have the answer for that question. Try to get a help to understand the question by asking it again if you did not understand on first instance. Answering something incorrectly will cause confusion in officer's mind for sure.

Thanxxx very much for ur reply Divs...its really a nice information for all Mumbai based Applicants..

One thing i was amazed was that the CO did not look at u...strange ...Actually they r the one who have the authority to approve Immigrant Visa and the officer didn't even looked at u to see how u were answering i.e. ur body language, ur facial expressions...Instead he was looking at the computer...This yhing is strange

I wonder what they look in the computer as our whole case is in form of paperwork...Same thing happened to my mon back in 2005 when she was interviewed...they asked her all sort of questions and after interview the CO looked at her computer for few mins and then she said ur Visa is approved...Can u say what do they look inside the computer ????

One question..was the CO a lady or gents and what approximately could be her/his age...???

Ans finally, do u thing our dressing can have a bad or good impression....coz i have read that if we go for IV Interview we should wear formal clothing and not casual like jeans or T-shirts as it affects our visa approval chances..i am talking abt gents particularly....

There must be other visa applicants also so u must have seen them what sort of clothings they would have worn......

I think dressing smartly is more important than dressing formally. The interviewer was a lady in her 40s to 50s if you ask me. Like I said, the officer sitting with her was observing my body language.
