Talk to your congressman before you do anything.I assume most people are on this website because of problems myself included.I rushed into marrying a Vietnamese girl, thinking I have a good job, house can support her, should be no problem for her to come to America Married to me.After almost 3 years 4 trips to Vietnam and an 2 inches thick of paperwork, lawyer, thousands of dollars,I still have no clue when she and 5 year old daughter will be here.We were not as prepared for the interview as I had thought, she was nervous, but after we got denied,I got lawyer and had to start all over again. That is a 6 months or when ever they feel like telling you, process. I tried the quiet, patient approach, Nothing,,tired of waiting I called and yelled at USCIS,Congressmans secratary, The congressmans sec, told me I should have talked to her first. She says Vietnam is a fraud ridden country. So now we are suffering, So before you fill out any paperwork or send them money TALK TO YOUR CONGRESSMAN FIRST. I think the government is a bunch of scam artists themselves, why else do you think they do not want to help people,,,,,,,,,,to have a dream to meet and marry a woman from another country is highly discouaged.Thats like the government is telling me who I can and cannot be with, they have no right to do that. This has been a very tough fight, with no end that I can see. This is a terrible injustic to a United States citizen, who has lived here his whole life, born here,The immigration service is like GOD telling people WAIT Suffer some more,be patient, you F,ed up. Thank you USCIS,NVC,US Embassy,Thank you for making people WAIT,breaking peoples hearts.

What can a congressperson do to help anyone? Perhaps make an inquiry to get processing moving along if stuck. Other than that, not too much.

The officers at the embassy/consulate make the decision. And in a country such as Vietnam, a politician isn't going to have enough influence to change a decision.

The only thing that talking to your congressman's office may have helped with is to have told you to prepare for a tough go due to the history of fraud in VN.

Sorry to hear your process has been long and difficult. It happens in the higher fraud countries. Lots of VJ members have worked a few years to obtain visas in HCMC. Feel free to spend some time in the Vietnam regional forum. You'll find good info and support there.

Many of us came here to be proactive not reactive... The HCMC consulate is one of the toughest and they have a different set of expectations that would be the case in other countries. Had you been better prepared from the onset, she would likely be here already... Now its a matter of waiting and learning how to play thier game...
