H1 quota was filled early this year.

Google 221g........... Google is your friend

It's a quick and efficient way to get immediate information that can then be considered along with feedback obtained here on VJ or from other sources.

And you think, what? People have never heard of this 'Google'? Of course they have. But this is the place that people go to ask visa related questions and the OP asked one. To simply say "Google it" doesn't help anyone. If people don't want to answer a question, they don't have to.

And that's why they're here. They know Google exists. Sometimes it's better to get information from actual people you can have an actual discussion with. If you didn't want to answer, you didn't have to. The OP got their answer fairly quickly from others willing to give it.

I could go into every thread and tell people to "Google it" ... but that wouldn't be helpful, would it?

My fiancee says she read that the US Embassy filled their quota for fiancee visas for this year. Is it true there is a quota?

No quotas, no limits for K-1 visas anywhere.

No quota. Make sure you check the USISC website regularly for any changes in processing if you are worried; and make sure your fiance validates anything she is told be friends or others in the middle of k-1, because often people are misinformed and she will be worrying herself for nothing!

221g is administrative processing.

Goodluck!

However, when Obama loses, Romney and the Republicans will eliminate the K visa program and cap legal immigration. I suppose that will create a series of quotas in effect. Don't forget to vote in November, and if you are voting for Obama, don't forget to vote early, and to vote often!

I didn't realize saying "google it isn't helpful" was an attack.

I think it's naive to think the amount of K1 and CR1 visas are unlimited and that it's the slow pace of USCIS petition adjudicators that make things take so long. If I remember correctly, K1 and CR1's have an interview at a consulate abroad. Add up all of the interview appointments available on a given day at all of the US consulates around the world that conducts such interviews, and you have your quota for that day.You can figure it by week, month, and year, too. Not all visas will be approved, so the quota would be a little lower. Read consulate reviews, and people usually say to get there early because it gets crowded, not many unfilled appointments.

I believe quotas based on nationality, ethnicity, or race were outlawed in the Immigration and Nationality Act of 1965.

Timeline:

Met online - 2005

Started dating - 2008

10 trips, 400+ days together - 2008-2012

NOA1, CVC - 14 December 2011

NOA2, CVC - 17 May 2012 (155 days)

File arrived at the NVC on 6/25/2012 - that's 5.5 weeks or so from the NOA2

NVC said that they sent it onward to Sydney on 7/2/2012

Then how do you explain the Diversity Lottery rules? Certain countries are excluded, because they are over-represented by other visa paths.

Or, how do you explain the visa bulletin here where oversubscribed countries (China, India, Mexico, and Philippines) have earlier cut-off dates than other countries? In other words, if you want be be reunited with a brother or sister, you may have to wait 23 years, instead of 12 years, if your sibling is Filipino.

No, there are definitely quotas for most categories of visas, but not all.
