Socialist Hollande triumphs in French presidential poll

Left-wing candidate François Hollande has defeated incumbent Nicolas Sarkozy in Sunday's runoff, exit polls say, becoming the first Socialist to win a presidential election since François Mitterrand in 1988.

Greek voters punish coalition, reward far left in legislative vote

Voters angry over austerity punished Greece's two-party ruling coalition on Sunday, with conservative New Democracy in first place with 19.18%, far short of what is required to form a government, and socialist partners Pasok taking only 13.6%, official projections show. The far-left Syriza party is expected to take second place with 16.3%.

As usual my choices are limited by supposedly "pro choice" people. Best answer would be "who cares?"

The USA needs to take this opportunity to eliminate all income tax and withholding tax of any sort on businesses (they just collect it from us anyway) and implement a FAIR TAX and offer a haven for the European businesses that are about to be bent over and buggered. We need to, once again, be the escape hatch for European oppression. This time, send us your jobs!

No, with a qualification. Europe lost any relevance to the modern world when European nations lost nearly all their colonies post WWII. Look how silly Britain looked bullying the Argentinians, or how few Europeans countries actually contribute anything meaningful to the trouble spots in the world.

It is the beginning of the end for the US, and Japan, however. By the end of this century, China and India will be the dominant powers in the world, that is if they don't nuke each other first. And of course, there is the wild card of the Muslim nations, if they ever get their act together and unite behind some leader that could bring them back to their former glory.

India? You are delusional. If India can dominate its own territory, it will have truly accomplished something.

We don't have to be the cayman islands... we can be better.

CONCLUSIVE EVIDENCE OBAMA HUSSEIN IS AN ANTI-AMERICAN SOCIALIST!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

President Obama on Sunday congratulated President-elect François Hollande shortly after he was elected France’s new leader.

Obama also plans on welcoming Hollande during both the Group of 8 summit and NATO summit in Chicago later in May, according to the White House.

In a phone conversation, Obama suggested that he and Hollande meet in person ahead of the summits.

Maybe when Obama's term/terms are over here he could run for President in a European country? He could just have another fake birth certificate made and claim he was (insert name of country here).

Terrific idea! Better yet, he could be president of that new world government that everyone knows he and the other communists in DC have been planning for! Then they come and get all your guns and lock up everyone who protests in those FEMA re-education centers!

Really, you think that not only was Obama so talented that he was able to get elected president of the USA in a free election, he did this as an alien after faking a birth certificate! You must really admire this guy!!

India is even more patient than the China. When they control all the world's call centers and convenience stores, as well as hold the majority of the world's advanced degrees in Medicine, Science, Technology, and Engineering, then they will make their move.

How is Britain bullying the Argentinians?

I find it hard to equate Argentina invading the Falklands, where the inhabitants want to stay a British territory, with Britain bullying the Argentinians.

The Argentinians invaded, Britain sent a task force 8,000 miles to the South Atlantic and kicked sh!t out of them and liberated the Islands and the islanders. After that debacle, the military junta lost power in Argentina, which re-found democracy. I call that assisted, yet unintended regime change.

Yeah everyone goes on about China. No one speaks English there. Look at India with all the offshore stuff as well as all the H1Bs here, and they speak English.

455 million people in India live below subsistence poverty level.

That's more people than exist in the United States of America.

That's more than a third of their population.

That's a huge hurdle to overcome. It won't happen in our lifetime.

And even if you argue a poor country can be dominant through military strength, do you really see India doing in the next 50 years what it has failed to do in the last 50... that is, keep fringe populations and fringe states/provinces from wanting out of the Republic altogether? When India figures out how to shut out the Chinese and kill every Maoist rebel in the jungles and figures out how to go toe to toe against an American-sponsored terror regime based out of Islamabad and solidifies its hold over Indian-held Kashmir.... then maybe it can think about being dominant.

For now, India is a poor country destined to remain so for a very long time due to the sheer magnitude of the problem. And its surrounded by powerful countries and their proxies on all sides and is unwilling/unable to effectively deal with them.
