Quick question here... and hi I'll be moving my butt over to this forum now. I get married in just about 4 weeks. wooooooo. I'll be filing for AOS, EAD, AP ASAP afterwards.

A few quick questions and yes I have read all the guides many times.

1. Getting my biometrics taken at the POE..does this happen to everyone? Why is it done again?

2. I have to find a Dr. in my area to fill out the I693A for my vaccination supplement, since my physical exam is still valid....is this correct??

3. The marriage certificate. I know in the FAQ's it says something about rather than mailing in the info to take it to the town hall or wherever the certificates are rpocessed in order to speed up the process. Obviously you have to have it to file for AOS. Has anyone had any experience with this?? I am reading it correctly? Is this something I would discuss with the minister? And then town hall?? Just checking.

Thank you all for the responses I know will come. I'm fluent in K1 but beginner at AOS..hehe.

Thanks again!! :star:

1. No never. Because it's a waste of your time and your money and it's a U.S. government process that's chaotic, and makes no sense. You're over-thinking the "why's" of the process. You're best to just stumble through it without any appreciable conscious thought else you'll drive yourself crazy....

2. Physical is valid. Yes, you need to find an approved "civil surgeon" to do the supplement.

3. Don't have a clue what you're asking? Please clarify.

I only had my index finger print taken and my photo at POE...

Yes you just need the Vaccination Suppliment done.....

Whoever marries you will give you a certificate to either mail into your local town hall or you can take it in yourself and they will register your marriage and make you the Marriage certificate that you will need to send a copy of with your AOS....

Thank you Kezzie.. that was my concern about the certificate. I know, in Canada where I was living, the priest or minister mailed it in and it was taking people over 8 weeks to get their marriage certificate.

I wasn't sure if it was the same here in the US. Obviously we don't want to wait 8 weeks for a piece of paper before we canapply for AOS.

So, hopefully, when we meet with the minister, she'll be able to work with us on it.

Thanks all.

One important thing, YOu can ask your doctor for a copy of the Medical and the Supplement, they will send out the original to the uscis. My wife requested a copy of the documents, it helps a lot because they did ask us for the vaccination supplement and medical so we submitted the copy along with the Vaccination supplement, that did it.

All you need is the marriage certificate, once you get it either from City Hall or through your church you are good to go.

Good luck

I have some info about the marriage certificate in MA which is different from what other posters said, so my guess would be that it differs by state...

In MA the person performing the ceremony has to fill some stuff out on the marriage license and send it in themselves to your town hall. I suppose you could work something out with them to make sure it gets done quickly or even bring it in yourself, but the instructions that they give you are to have the officiant do this. Our JP recognized that we needed the completed marriage certificate ASAP and sent it in first thing Monday morning after our Saturday wedding. We were told that it takes about 2 weeks to get processed and then that we could go in and get a copy. I can't tell you how accurate this is, we are calling tomorrow to check and then hopefully picking up the certificate and mailing AOS, etc.

My point with this post was just that different states, and probably different towns as well, do things differently. My advice would be to call your town hall, explain you need the certificate asap after the wedding and ask their advice.

Good luck!
