hi everybody, we have an interview for this month for AOS and would like to know what we need to take with us to the interview?

A full copy of your AOS package, originals of all the copies you sent (birth certificate, marriage certificate, etc.), more recent pay stubs are good, some photos - and, whatever the interview notice specifically tells you to bring.

Out of curiosity, why do people say to bring a copy of the application you originally sent with you? I don't believe it is listed on my notification letter, and obviously the IO has a copy, so I am just a little confused on why it would be beneficial.

stuff gets lost. (not surprising given the huge amounts of paper they must be handling).

just to cover your ___ really.

so maybe some of the proof you sent would have been in the original application but its not one of those "bring originals" items like your passport. (say health insurance printouts or whatever where no "original exists that you would bring in anyway)

That makes sense for evidence...but the whole package? Still doesn't make sense.

fair enough. maybe lazyness then to separate the piles

I put the whole application on a photocopier and let it run. punches holes, refiled in folder.

no way am i going through that to cherry-pick whats going to the interview.

I've heard of people going to the interview and then the IO say their application never got sent to the service center. Good thing they had a copy of everything they sent or they would have been waiting for a new interview! Happened really recently, you could probably search it here on VJ.

For example, in our case it was pretty obvious no one had gone through our application package properly by our interview, so when the IO was asking us questions, she would keep saying "oh, where's the birth certificate copy, I don't see it here.." or "..do you have a copy of your lease.." - we knew we had sent all of these documents, and they probably were in the pile of papers she had in front of her, but it was also extremely easy for us to just pull out the additional copy from our own AOS package for her. If an IO claims something was missing from the original submission, but you have a full copy of the package, it is easy to prove you've sent everything - and it is easy to produce an extra copy to smooth things over.

A copy of the full package is not required. Personally I just found it the easiest way to control what we sent and protect ourselves in case we had to prove we did submit something particular.
