Twitter. She saw some comments of mine about a wbgame via a mutual friend of ours, and corrected my mistakes on some math I'd done. Then we started talking regularly, moved to IM and then Skype, then she came to visit back at the start of this year, I proposed to her (by making a video game for her to play with the question at the end), she accepted, and now I'm stucking waiting on a RFE that probably got sent to my physical address rather than my mailing address.

Currently getting my passport renewed so I can go visit her - if we're lucky, we can arrange it so I can be there for her interview, but the way the CSC is faffing about with our case it might just be a regular visit - which will be more than good enough for me, even if I'll want to just bring her home at the end of it.

Great proposal! Thanks for sharing.

I'm so sorry you're going through this. I cannot even imagine your frustration level. I'm pissed off just reading about it. :bonk: I really hope you can get some answers soon. I think planning a visit is a great idea.

We met in Sept 2011 while I was working in a bar restaurant in Maine. It was all by chance that we got together. His friend had just finished the Appalachian trail and was in town for one day to meet up with my man. It just happened that he was Scottish American and got excited when he saw this Irish pub that sold Guinness ( a bar my now Fiancee never went into) ANYWAY they came in on a day I was working and I took one look at this man with a handsome beard and I was sold! What made it more coincidental is that I worked/ was good friends with a girl whose boyfriend worked with my fiancee and her boyfriend just happened to drop by to pick her up from work and bumped into my fiancee that day. So I asked who he was and two weeks later we were introduced and that was it. We were inseperable.

Brought together by Guinness! Love it!! and love the beer

So how did all ya'll meet your other half??

online dating.

story was, I was planning on moving to Canada - I have citizenship and family there and I wanted a change, so I was avoiding dating anyone in Sydney, my room mate at the time, was on a few sites and going on lots of dates, she told me to sign up, so I figured, ok, I'll do it for a laugh and some entertainment, signed on to e-harmony for 1 month through her recommendation and selected Canada and USA, thought I might find a guy in Canada to talk to for a few months. My first set of matches came through and for some reason my SO's pictures and his profile just caught my attention so i sent him a contact, he didn't respond for a week. I had no idea he was in Iraq or that he was a soldier (mental health not combat).

his story, his wife had left him a few months before deploying to Iraq, the marriage was well over anyway, she was already involved with someone else. So while in Iraq, he thought he might entertain himself with a woman to talk to, since he now had no one. When I messaged him he had just gone back on R&R leave and met up with one girl in Hawaii, which didn't work out. and he didn't respond to me as he was in transit back to Iraq, he had decided to cancel his account when he got back, he saw my request for contact and liked what he saw, decided he'd give it one more shot.

so we talked for 9 months, emailed every day, talked on the phone once a week, he got back to Hawaii in November and came to see me for a month from Dec20, we had Christmas together, visited NZ and my family too, he even had to go back to Hawaii for 1 day while he was here to finalise his divorce, long story - she was playing games, they couldn't change the date, the judge ordered the ex to pay his airfare though and told her to grow up  so he did a 24hour round trip Sydney to Hawaii to Auckland, landed on new years eve, just after midnight... we've barely gone a day without emailing since the first one, which was just over 18months ago. we are getting married on Dec 20 too.

Yep. Kind of like I figured, someone at CSC bungled the address.

"On September 27, 2012, the post office returned your document I129F, PETITION FOR FIANCE(E) as undeliverable. We will hold it for 180 days from September 27, 2012 to allow you time to contact us. If you do not contact us at 1-800-375-5283 within 180 days, this document will be destroyed and you will need to file a new application or application for replacement with fee."

So I've called the customer service line and requested it be sent back out, and provided the correct address /again/. Sigh. This isn't frustrating, this is just depressing.

The perils of living in a rural area: the government tends to employ people who've got no idea who things work outside city limits. Sigh.

Why, oh why can't they tell you what it says, or email you what it says?? :bonk: That is the worst part of this, unbelievable. I did see a post from someone who got NOA2 1 week after returning the RFE, so there is hope on that front. We just need to get you damn document!

The best part is the customer service rep actually asked for my email address, but you /know/ it won't be used for anything useful.

My fiancee just compared the bungling of the government in regards to sending things to my mailing address rather than my physical address to Wheatly, the moronic AI from Portal 2. Geek love is the best kind. ^_^ It makes the whole day better.

of all the issues on here that people have.. this is by far the most ridiculous! such a time waster, someone needs to get into USCIS and put some efficiency in place, maybe with all the e-docs they are starting to do, they will at some point, be totally online and efficient. maybe.

I'm thinking that suggesting you take up residence in a city dwelling for a few months till this is done, is not such a stupid drastic idea.

so.. I estimate you have your RFE hard copy by Tuesday next week.

SweetDelish, I love your story! Thanks for sharing

hehe.. even for an online dating story. :P

I love all these stories, I could read stuff like that for hours. i guess I do have a romantic streak in my bones..
