My wife is from Ukraine (arrived in US in Mar '06) and we live in central IL. The immigration process has gone smoothly so far, but she hasn't been able to make any friends here. She e-mails/webcams/calls friends and family overseas and has a friend on a student visa in DC which she contacts, but no one that lives close. We would appreciate any suggestions anyone has about meeting new people in central IL, especially those that speak Russian. Thanks.

Although I'm not Russian, I just wanted to say hi to you and yor wife. I live in Illinois, i'm in the St. Louis metro east area, and have really found it quite a tough area to find friends. I've been here since June and understand your wife's loneliness. My husband is originally from the Peoria area so we are back and forth a lot. I don't have any suggestions on how she can make friends unfortunately, I just wanted to let your wife know there are other people in Illinois who are going through the same thing as her! I hope things pick up!!

Thanks for the encouragement. Maybe it will help when my wife starts working or going to school. We live in a new (developing) subdivision which also doesn't help.

BTW, my best friend just got back from vacation in England with his wife. They enjoyed it very much and took lots of pictures. Our secretary's daughter just started attending SIU-E this fall. Just odd coincidences. Anyway, good luck with you and your husband!
