This is very possible. As long as you are aware of what 'can' happen and are prepared for a potential delay I would go ahead and make whatever decision is best for you guys.

Thanks. Since no one seems to like the idea of taking action before we get the notice, I think we'll wait and make a decision after that. I'll keep you guys updated.

Update: we are currently in transit to our new location. We just received an email saying our interview is scheduled for mid-June.

Does this mean the paper letter has already been sent? We have not updated our address yet. Can we request a duplicate letter be sent to our new address? Unless we specifically ask them to reschedule, updating our address will not change anything about the appointment, will it?

We could fly back to have the interview at the original location on the original date, but this would mean missing work and buying expensive plane tickets.

I think having the AOS completed successfully is worth the missed work and the expensive tickets. You will get the appointment letter about a month ahead of time (unless your letter gets into a mess up like mine). This should give you enough time to plan.

You could fly two days ahead of time for the interview and fly back to work two or three hours after the interview. I don't think missing work for 3 days is enough 'care' to risk a delay or as you say lost files. I say fly two days ahead of time to cushion yourself for any eventuality like a missed flight or such.

We finally got the physical interview notice forwarded to us, and there's good news! It was actually scheduled in a different city than the biometrics appointment. We can get a direct flight now and get around easily using public transportation.

The person we spoke to on the phone said the officer there could technically decline to speak with us since we're no longer living in their jurisdiction. We're going to take our chances, though!

That's stupid...and if not untrue, very unlikely. ;)

It's not stupid. And it's highly likely.

Biometrics are often collected at application support centers. Interviews are taken at field offices.

My husband's biometrics were collected on three different occasions at an application support center 70 miles south of us. His interview however was at the field office 170 miles northeast.

Our journey together on this earth has come to an end.

I will see you one day again, my love.

... I think maybe you are misreading what part of the post I am saying is stupid and unlikely.

He got an interview letter, it is booked for that location. If he goes and sits down with the IO it is highly unlikely that the IO is going to say, "Oh...I guess I refuse to interview you since you don't live here. Event though you are booked for here by USCIS and I am trained the exact same way as any other IO and qualified to determine if you are eligible for Permanent Residence...nah...go somewhere else!"

:bonk:

USCIS booked him an appointment if he shows up they will interview him. That's their job.

The call center employees are notorious for giving wrong information.

Try not to reschedule your interview. They explicitly warn you that if you do, it can be pushed back quite a bit, you may lose some immigration benefit that you already have and may have to repeat several steps. If that is not cause for alarm, please, try and stay at one address for the duration of the AOS. I have moved to live with my wife elsewhere temporarily, but, I did not change my principal address since I still had someone there to immediately contact me of any pertinent USCIS communication. Constant moving is a nice way to get your USCIS mail lost.

You are a little late to the game...they made that decision a couple months back.,,

Today we received another interview notice for our new city a few weeks after the initial one was scheduled. We never requested this. Is the first appointment still valid? If we choose to attend the second (it would be more convenient), could we be denied for not attending the first?

I will call the NBC and maybe set up an infopass appointment Monday, but wanted to see what you guys thought first.

Thanks.

I'd say you are on the right track. They should be able to tell you if one has been cancelled and which is still valid.

I thought you had decided not to do a change of address notification with them?
