When we submit our green card application, due to joint sponsor's privacy concerns, our joint sponsor did not give us copies of any joint sponsor documents. We gave him our documents and he submitted along with his paperwork altogether to the USCIS. Everything seems well I guess. Until we received the interview notice and stating we need to bring joint sponsor's documents to the interview.

Do we have to have joint sponsor’s documents during the green card interview? Has anyone had a joint sponsor as well? did you guys ever been asked about the joint sponsor's documentation copies during green card interview?

The letter states that you need to bring them, so that's very clear. It's not unusual for originals to be inspected at the interview.

Inform your joint sponsor. If they are not willing, then find someone else and bring those documents to the interview.

could you please specify what the letter said? did it ask for "bring joint sponsor's documents" or more specific?

21/2 - received NOA in mail for all 4 (130/485/765/131)

23/3 - biometrics scheduled -> did "early" walk-in on 21 March

06/4 - received email update, interview scheduled for 7th May

27/4 - received EAD

08/5 - email: approval one day after interview (7th May)

The letter is quite long, here is just a short paragraph from the letter.

The letter said: "YOU MUST BRING THE FOLLOWING ITEMS WITH YOU: (Please use as a checklist to prepare for your interview)

-This Interview Notice and your Government issued photo identification.

-A completed medical examination (Form I-693) and vaccination supplement in a sealed envelope(unless already submitted).

-A completed Affidavit(s) of Support (Form I-864) with all required evidence, including the following, for each of your sponsors (unless already submitted): Federal Income Tax returns and W-2's, or certified IRS printouts for the most recent tax year; Letters from each current employer, verifying current rate of pay and average weekly hours and pay stubs for the past 2 months; Evidence of you sponsor's and/or co-sponsor's United States Citizenship or Lawful Permanent Resident status. "

I know it says "unless already submitted." Even though it seems like from the letter itself if I already submitted then I don't need to bring anything from the joint sponsor with me to the interview. However, I've heard cases where the immigration officer asked for joint sponsor tax return copies at the interview. I'm wondering if anyone else who had a joint sponsor when applying for green card has ever been asked about providing joint sponsor documents at the interview?

It's asking the past 2 months of paystubs, so you may need those from your joint sponsor. Also, confirm that the joint sponsor sent the necessary proof of citizenship or residency.

ok, thanks. that sounds like the generic letter everyone gets for their invite.

so (usually) if they wanted some more I-864 proof they would have RFE'd you for it.

the idea is that they get a chance to question you at interview and check documents are for real. makes little sense to ask for stuff that was supposed to have be filed initially. (obviously there are exceptions, as always)

do you know if your joint sponsor supplied tax return copies? (presumably no)

if it makes you feel more comfortable, maybe you can get your joint sponsor to order these and give them to you in a sealed envelope? if you need them at interview you can hand them over, if you dont, return envelope to your joint sponsor?

other than that there are really no "original" joint sponsor documents you can bring. i have not heard of anyone bringing original passport of joint sponsor as proof of citizenship.

as you suggest, maybe others that have been using a joint sponsor can add their interview experience.
