Maybe because folks have bought into the pro-illegal alien movement lie that we need illegal aliens in the ag industry, there are studies that show the labor component is a very small part of the cost of food as a result of utilizing illegal alien labor.

Interesting study but raises the question why hire illegals in the first place if not for economic reasons? Are farmers or corporations going to pay twice as much for legal labor plus benefits and not pass that cost on to the consumer?

The figures given show what would likely be a 10-15% increase in total production cost due to labor, but estimate we would pay only 2.5% more? Doesn't add up.

Excellent observation. But most people would really rather complain and argue about issues than actually DO anything that makes sense. You are absolutely correct. Corporations are about profit. If people put their money where their mouths are... it would affect profits. I LOVEEEE Hersheys. But they just cut some 2500 jobs and are moving operations to Mexico. M&M's are my NEW favorite candy !!!

Yeah people sometimes forget that old adage that the customer is always right. If consumers as a whole say cheap ####### is the most important thing, that's what they'll get.

To me, hiring illegal workers here and moving industry overseas are two sides of the same coin. Both are driven by greed and the consumer is just as complicit as the corporation.

You would? Wow, you sure are taking this personally.

What sanctions would you impose?

Yes, I take it personally since I am an IRS agent. It is my job to not only make sure that taxpayers follow the Internal Revenue Code but I am also responsible for making sure that paid tax return prepares follow their obligations. If you are interested in sanctions against paid tax return prepares then have fun reading Subpart C of Circular 230. Her is a link to the document:

It is not my responsibility to personally verify all the numbers or statements given to me by a client. I have no obligation, legal or ethical, to audit your return. This is up to the IRS, if they so choose. I am simply preparing the return, to the best of my ability, "based on information supplied by the client".....from an accounting website.

You will be held responsible for your return, even if it is prepared by someone else.

If you are a paid tax return preparer then I suggest you read Circular 230.

The real problem is the IRS allows (with the aid of the fools in congress) the scam to go on. They'd look rather silly imposing sanctions on a tax practitioner when they have a glaring report from the IG outing them.

Things move slowly in the Congress, but I have this sense that the wheels will turn quickly this upcoming week. It's not only the IG's report, but now there's a local news report that's going viral and getting national exposure.

The heat from constituents is gonna flare up, you betcha - and there will be some grease on the wheels this upcoming week.

Let's see what happens, aye?

---

IMO, if tax practitioners are required to utilize eVerify, then a lot of this silliness will disappear.

Sometimes my language usage seems confusing - please feel free to 'read it twice', just in case !

The loonies on the left (are the real problem) would scream if the law was ever serious enough to where illegal aliens couldn't work -- "oh those heartless ####### conservatives are starving poor illegal aliens that just want to come here to work and feed their families.' There is NO pleasing the left -- except for total amnesty.

Read the studies that have been done regarding the negligible increase in produce prices, the increase is next to nothing. Certainly not enough to justify all of the problems associated with turning a blind eye to the illegal alien problem.

Get rid of the cradle-to-grave welfare system the loony-left loves for able bodied folks, then farmers will have all the labor they need.

Where do you get your data about screaming loonies on the left? While there is no doubt you can find someone out there who will be upset over anything imaginable, I find it a bit hard to believe what you say. It sounds more like self-serving right-wing rhetoric of the type often spouted by the likes of Limbaugh to justify the action and inaction by corporate interests that is the real force behind the status quo!

Then you need to open your eyes and your ears.

The left will make noise, the right will stay mum, but both sides in Washington will do nothing to upset the apple cart. All the while, a large majority of the electorate in general, and several States, are left to feel that no-one is listening to their concerns and are working to gain some level of control over enforcement of immigration laws - laws which administrations under both main parties have long since abrogated in their haste to satisfy their radical progressive base (the Democrats), or their profit-seeking corporate contributors (the Republicans).

With luck, SCOTUS will uphold most, if not all, of AZ SB 1070, and then we will see what happens when existing Federal immigration law, or State-level facsimiles of those laws, is actually enforced.

Unless laws are changed to require all people to be able to produce documents on demand to prove their identity and citizenship this law is clearly unconstitutional under the equal protection doctrine.

Maybe it IS time to have a national ID in this era of terrorism etc. Is it a significantly valuable right to be able to go about your business without 'authorities' having the right to demand identification?

Funny, I just looked and I saw a topic titled "Stokes Interview". I was thinking WTH, but it ended up being about the Broncos signing Brandon Stokely.

Other than that it's just football. They consider Canadian Football to be pushing the boundaries of "off-topic".
