You cannot dispute that sometimes lawyers can be helpful in immigration issues (complicated cases etc) , but you need to find the right lawyer.

If you have a relatively simple case then your visa application should be relatively simple and easy to do if following the guides and utilizing VJ!

Good luck on your visa journey

Even with red flags and complications it is possible to get through without a lawyer. I know a lawyer wouldn't have been able to do much for my wife and I when we got kind of Stoked at the consulate. Our I-601 waiver was approved a month ahead of USCIS Panama's 8-10 month estimated adjudication time. We didn't hire a lawyer for our waiver, but I learned a lot from this website and immigrate2us, which is often recommended for people who need waivers. Laurel Scott who is a great waiver lawyer gives generously of her time and knowledge on I2US, and all it costs you is the time it takes to find it. Visajourney is a lot more fun than I2US though, kind of depressing over there. What makes this site so awesome are the members who remain active here, even though they have nothing to gain by doing so. If everyone quit after POE, this site would be filled with new members wondering amongst themselves, "Where's my NOA2?". To those members, and you know who you are, THANK YOU. I look forward to being one of those members, hopefully in less than a month. My NOA1 was oct 2009
