:) isnt it a lawyer is the one to helps you check the papers u submitted to nvc,and tells u what to do next...bla bla bla..huh im very much disappointed for choosing such kind of lawyer,..he do not deserves to be paid because ,instead of instructing us what to do,we are the one doing it to him..actually he told my hubby that he is so thankful coz he learned many things from him. shame on him....he'told us that he has no right/control to verify my visa???..isnt it this is part of his work....but why the others??

just a piece of advise to all my co-vjers...if u need help,...choose a very smart lawyer to help u in your journey ..  dont choose a lawyer who doesnt even know how to communicate with usem..

This is why VJ is against lawyers. As they only collect the money and you are the one end up doing all the work.

I have never used a lawyer, just consulted one for (free) to choose between CR-1 or K-1 (didn't know this website yet). And happy that I did all on my own, it only took me 5.5 month from NOA1 to Visa in hand.

Lawyers are the parasites that hang around this process. Tapeworms, basically. They are useless for anything in a visa process.

I will say that we never used a lawyer at all during our process. Thank goodness, we found our answers here with our friends that are going thru the same thing.

It's a very interesting process, but the less lawyers are involved, the easier it becomes for you all to be together.

The only time I could ever see using a lawyer for K1 or K3 is if the petitioner has some need for extensive research and sending in documents for a waiver, for part C of the I-129F. But still these documents should be easily accessible to the petitioner if the need a waiver. Other than that, the form instructions are provided. The majority of instructions are clear; just certain points are missed by some. Lawyers aren't necessary by about 98% of people who file.

Immigration lawyers CAN help people that have real legal immigration issues. There are plenty of such cases even for some K-1/K-2 and other VISA cases. I do agree that in the standard or ordinary run of the mill K-1 cases an immigration or any other kind of lawyer is not needed.

I remember petitioning for my Filipina ex many years ago, her and her then 2 year old son. There were some serious problems with her son's birth records and those problems were blocking her and him from coming here to the US after we have been married already in the Philippines. This was an immediate relative VISA for them. Things looked very grimm and we did not know what to do. But we hired and immigration lawyer and she helped us get through it and resolved the issues. We could not have done it with out her.

Hi to all

i am also victim of that kind of stupid lawyer in USA. Although i hired him when i read his profile and specially bcos he is originally from India so i guess he might have more exp how Mumbai embassy handle this kind of case but he wasted my 5 months just to gather all the information and documents from me. i paid him all fees in advance as per contract. i also hired him with that thought that i dnt have worry to miss any documents and it will be acurate but i got all the information from this website. i am really thankfull to all vj members. i arugued with him that we dnt have to send form i-864EZ with form i-129f but still he did.

he really doesn't deserve to be lawyer at all who doesnt know how to handle client's needs who are waiting so hard to be with their lover ones. i am waiting for last 6 years and i hope this year i will be with him.

i am at the stage to wiat for NOA2. its been already 1 month and 1 week.

Good luck to everyone!!

Thanks for reading this message.

hi to all:

i am also a victim of a stupid lawyer too. first of all, we hired a lawyer so that she can help us, it turned out that she is a pain. we hired her first week of november and i gave all the documents needed for the immigration in the second week of November. I was happy when i submitted all the documents to her. I thought that i was in the immigration waiting game already after i submitted my documents to her. In third week of December i called her just to find out what's going on with my paper coz it is been a while that i gave my papers to her. She said that i will recieve my NOA sooner. So i was still waiting. then, it was third week of january my NOA still didn't arrive. so i called them again and she said it will arrive soon. the following day my husband called her and he was so angry and asked her the reciept from the UPS so that he know when the lawyer sent the paper. it turned out that the paper was being sent on the 10th of january. it means that my paper was in lawyers office for over a month before she sent it out. she just took our money and didn't do anything.

Then, my interview notice arrived march 23, 2012. I called the lawyer so that she can gave me any hint on what documents should i bring for my interview. I set up an appointment with her April 13, 2012 that way i still have two weeks before the interview and if my documents were incorrect we still have time to get the correct ones. The day before my appointment, the secretary called and cancelled my appointment with the lawyer because she went to Africa and will be back in April 18. so i set up an appointment again for the following friday April 20. We went to that appointment becuase we hadn't heard from them. When i got there in the office, the secretary told us that the lawyer wasn't there until Monday and my interview was Tuesday. My husband and i was very angry but we could not do anything because my interview was comming up. But i already completed the papers before we went to the lawyer's appointment. i just wanted to make sure if my papers were correct. It ends up that the lawyer was a useless for my application process. we wasted $3,000 on the parasite lawyer.

My advice is do not use a lawyer if you can make it by yourself unless if there are serious problems... Good luck to all

I think my lawyer is over whelmed bc whenever we call him he doesn't ever remmember who we are or where our case files are!!!! Ugh!!!!!

I do know one very good Immigration lawyer in Chicago and he is very good at clearing up troubles plus he is a help if clients do not speak English. Some others people might use him if they are intimidated with paperwork. But for many people who have found their way here is is best and cheapest to do it yourself.
