Blaming the 'Postman' for returning letter to USCIS

Yesterday we received an email notification that the post office returned our appointment letter to USCIS as ‘undeliverable.’

This followed two+ weeks of waiting since receiving an email notification on April 18 that our interview was scheduled for May 22 at NBC.

Pretty weird - since we have received all other mail from USCIS, including NOAs, EAD (which we received notification on the same day with the appointment notification), and even a confirmation letter after we called USCIS to correct a typo in the I485 form.

We can only theorize [that] the 'postman' (the usual 'postman' for our gated community is a lady) must have placed our letter in the wrong mail box resulting in it being send back to USCIS.

We called USCIS and got a very helpful rep who later transferred us to a ‘higher authority’ who assured us that they were re-mailing the notice and we should receive it in 6 days or so.

Regarding my numerous dashes downstairs to check the mailbox several times a day (and a few at night!) wifey was asking me if I want her to buy me an army cot so I can move downstairs to sleep in the hallway by the mailboxes (we live on the 3rd floor of an apartment building).

Classic ...... I love it!! Well at least you know it's on the way now. Tell her to head down to the army store if it isn't there by the 6th day. You'll need it! .... Truthfully though, good luck we'll be praying for you.

I would suggest putting a sticker with your name on it down there, if you haven't already, just in case he does it again.

LOL, yes this process forces us to do the strangest things It's OK, we VJ'ers understand and that's what matters, LOL. I didn't sleep by the mailbox...but, I did make USCIS my homepage for a while because I checked our status a gazillion times per day...actually, I checked Igor's List more! We kinda had this happen after change of addresses. My maiden name wasn't on our hotel suite (we lived there for over a month) and one employee was sending all the mail back despite the fact there was a note pinned to the computer not to. In all she returned 5 pieces of USCIS mail... I was so livid since 3 of them were after we changed the reservation to have my maiden name on it! So it wasn't the post man, just the front desk person who seemed to have it out for me (in total, she returned over 25 pieces of mail, including a package that was so damaged by the time it got back to the sender it coudln't be resent)

I hope the paper comes quickly for you!

We called last week on Monday and Wednesday. Wednesday they said they have re-mailed it. It is now Friday, 10 days later and nothing in our mailbox.

Somehow, somewhere, USCIS has to be sending that particular letter somewhere other than to our address. On Wednesday this week we received a separate letter from the Field Office approving our request for an accommodation for the interview... but still, no notice for the interview, apart from the email notification.

We put names on the inside and outside of the mailbox.

Don't know what to do next. Anyone ever heard of someone showing up for the interview without the letter?

Maybe call the local office where you will be interviewed and speak with them about it so they know about you and your situation ahead of time.

As I understand it you cannot attend an interview without the letter.

You could schedule an Infopass appointment at your local USCIS office, explain the situation to them and they would likely print you out a new one then and there. This is probably the option I would pursue.

Have scheduled an Infopass appointment for Wednesday morning. Thanks for the suggestion. Hope that works and they can print the letter, or the letter arrives in mail (by some miracle) before then.

Went to the Infopass appointment.

After explaining the situation, and after she checked and confirmed that the address they have on record is correct, she counselled that the best place to ask why the mail was send back to USCIS would be the USPS.

The IO was very courteous, patient, and professional.

I asked if they can print another letter for me, and she said that she cannot print another notice. However, she said to prepare and come for the interview without the letter, since I have another letter from the Field Office approving a request for an accommodation to facilitate this interview.

She said we will be good with the Field Office letter. I asked her if I should call the NCSC again and she was categorical, and very assuring, that I do not need to.

So, I guess we are good for the interview on Tuesday.
