Getting the letter from the Embassy

Hello all,

My file was approved on April 5th and was sent to the Embassy in Paris on April 17th. However I still haven't heard from the Embassy and haven't received any letter yet. Is this normal ? How long does it usually take to get a letter from the Embassy with the checklist of the documments we are supposed to provide as well as the interview date ?

Thank for your help.

Rachel.

Hello Rachel,

Your petition was approved on April 5th but it was not actually directly sent to Paris. It is first forwarded to the National Visa Center, where they assigned a case number to your file. It usually takes a few weeks after the petition approval. NVC then sends your case to the Paris embassy, but recently the embassy has been very busy, and members reported having their packet 3 (instructions) after more than a month (and one month more to wait after you send back the packet 3).

I suggest you call NVC first, your case should have reach them by now, and I guess already left. Call (603) 334-0700 , press 1 for english, and then 5 to talk to an operator. Ask if they received your case and if yes, what is the case number (should be starting by PRS). Also ask when it was sent to Paris. Have your receipt number ready (on your NOA1), they will also verify what is the beneficiary/petitioner names, etc. :)

EDIT: I just woke up so now I realize, when you say your case was sent on the 17th, do you mean the USCIS sent it to NVC on the 17th, or that NVC sent it to the Embassy on the 17th?

In that last case and if you have your case number (PRS.....), you can call the Department of State to inquire about the last update on your case. Call 202-663-1225, press 1 and then 0 to talk to an operator. Ask what is the last update on your case. :)

Welcome to the forum.

That letter you mention usually takes some time to get to you. My letter arrived three weeks later... after the fact.

Do you have a case file number from NVC? Follow the K-1 Flowchart in the Guides. Update: Follow Didopage's great advice.

If you have your case number, have you contacted the embassy? Access embassy info by hitting button at top of web page.

If you have your case number, have your contacted the DOS about status of your case? The visa specialists at the DOS can be your new best friend....

Good luck on your visa journey.
