Hello, i'm filling out the I-864 (affidavit of support) and am confused as to how to answer question 25.

My wife is a USC and i am the Intending immigrant, currently in the US on an H1B visa.

My wife is currently in Grad school and makes $0 and therefore we will be using my income. She had a job, and filed a tax return for the past 2 years, 1/2 of 2011 & 2010 but not in 2009 as she was a student. There is a check box on Question 25 stating that I (she) has filed a tax return for each of the three most recent tax years), and then space under it to write in the Total income for each year. Should I check this box and put 2009 as $0 or should i not check the box and leave question 25 blank. or any alternatives?!

Thank you in advance for you help

You can't leave that question blank or you'll get a checklist for it.

In her situation, I believe she'd check off that question, but put $0 for 2009. Then include a letter stating why she didn't file taxes in 2009 (she was in school, no income).
