From what I have learnt when I had my turist visa interview not long ago I understand that if you demostrate that you have bonds with your country and you demostrate your intention to go back they will allow you go there for 6 months.

Good luck and if you believe something can happen like going to US and losing weight, then, that's what's going to happen!!!

Thank you!

It would be next to Newport, Rhode Island... I think it could be alot worse! :)

Make the trip out to Block Island while you're there. Not a long ferry ride from Newport. I'd tell you the names of some of my favorite hangouts, but the cocktails might not fit with your health plan. :)

Best of luck to you.

If you are really serious about loosing weight, I suggest that you go to Japan. The food over there is very healthy, you just have to aquire the taste which is not bad at all. The japanese life style will also help you shed weight in no time. I lived in Japan for 9 years and during those years, I never gained a pound no matter how much Japanese food I eat.

Why go to USA or any other developed country if you want to lose weight?

Seriously, go do volunteer work in Africa for 6 months, east africa perhaps.

I lost 8-9 kg when I was volunteering in Uganda for 6 months without even trying the slightest and I'm well-trained guy, some of it was muscular mass. If you are overweight you'd probably lose a lot more and doing good at the same time.

In Africa, you will learn the value of food and learn to appreciate it. You eat to live and not live to eat.

Here I eat several times a day at irregular times, lots of junks, pizza, soda, processed meats, snacks, chemicals, you name it.

In Uganda, we were fed 3 times a day, we ate exactly the same time with other people, good healthy, unprocessed food, rice, potatoes, fish, beans, no chemical craps. Zero snacks, only fruits, no ice-cream because nobody in the village had a fridge lol.

I never felt more alive and healthy than when I lived in Africa (except during malaria...but that's another story lol...)

OP has people in the states and that's why he wants to come here cause they can offset his expenses but again I say I wouldn't mention weight loss as a reason for coming here. As others have noted the USA isn't the healthiest country to visit to lose weight. It's a pretty feeble excuse for visiting here. I still say you're better off just applying for tourist visa and mentioning visiting friends and/or family as reason for coming here. Don't emphasize weight loss reason cause I really don't think it will fly with officials and it could possibly even cause denial of visa.

@Everbody: Thanks for the good wishes! Could need them :)

@GandK & Basalt: Thanks for the Tipps, but as Outback Annie mentioned, I've got friends over there, and that's why it would be much more easier and cheaper for me in the US.

@Anh map: Yeah, I recently saw pictures of Block Island. Looks like an awesome place! Have to do this!

@Outback Annie: Jep, I thought about that too, but then I thought the 6 Months of paid vacation could be suspicious then. Cause which employer would give you 6 Months paid with no GOOD reason?!

I would have thought the US would be the very last place to go, is there anywhere fatter?

I remember reading that the the UK is now officially fatter than the US.

I find that hard to believe, USA all the time.

Now I live in CO so am a bit outside the norm but for sheer podgyness surely US has no equal.

I remember being in a deli in NYC, they were famous for their Reubens? I think. Anyway this US couple sat down and ordered the full works, they must have been 50 Stone between them, I nearly fell off my seat when they both ordered a diet coke.

OP – You can always try but if I was the CO you needed to convince the reason provided by you would be extremely difficult to believe.

Why would you choose to come to US to lose the weight? Is it something that you cannot do in Germany? I would think ppl in Germany are more health conscious (other than smoking), the serving are much smaller compared to US.

I would think there should be plenty of Gyms and workout place, overall most Germans walk more on average compared to American.

Living in Germany for a year everything I can think of for losing weight could be done in Germany over in US.

Than your argument was you have friends in US, so as CO I would think you have lived all your life in Germany would you not have many more friends in Germany over US?

Also your employer writing a letter, he would be more that welcome to write such letter how much weight it would have I cannot say. I mean even if you are doing some specialized job, pretty much all and everyone is replaceable say for some reason a competitor gave you better offer and your quit your current job your current employer is not going to shut down his operations, he will find / train someone to take your position.

Hey!

Short update:

Had my interview today at the consulate in Frankfurt/Germany. Everything went fine! I became my B1/B2-Visa approved without any problems! Thanks everybody for the given informations and advices.

I just told the VO (who was very nice and kind btw.) the whole true story as I did in this thread. He approved it without any discussions. He even didn't looked at all the documents (contracts, letters, bank statements and so on) I brought.

For me I can say if you are honest, straight forward and have nothing to hide you don't have to fear the interview (at least as a german citizen)! Hindsight is easier than foresight :)

So, if someone is in the RI-Area between July and December write me a PM and come over to grab a beer, I will have a water then, but it will do the trick :)

I am just now reading this thread for the first time.

I hope you enjoy your stay in Rhode Island and reach your weigt loss goals. You are coming to our part of the country at one of the most beautiful times of year.
