So on TLC ( the learning channel ) right now is airing a special called Being pregnant at 70. As of right now they have featured 4 women who got pregnant in their 60s+ Their husbands have age differences of about 20 yrs younger. I wonder if anyone in similar age differences were to have a child at an older age how would you handle the news? A couple of the women have health issues & a couple of the women planned the pregnancy with ivf.

Edited to say they are now featuring a 70yr old woman from India who gave birth and how her & her husband tried for 50 yrs.

Seriously?? My husband recently showed me some article about an older woman (60s or 70s) who was pregnant, I think in Tunisia, and I thought it was just some bizarre fake article.

How did the 70 y.o. in India conceive -ivf??

I've seen that documentary. While I think most of the women involved in the documentary are fine mothers, I think it's irresponsible to have a child being that old. So potentially dangerous to both the child and mother. I don't have an exact age in mind that I believe is best for motherhood but for me, I don't think I would have a child past about 42 yrs of age. I don't think I could handle taking care of a newborn past that age, personally. Not that I think 42 is old or anything. I just think of the risks involved and I think about how old I would be when the child is say 10 or 15 and how I would handle raising said child.

I missed out on how it said she had gotten pregnant other than they went to a doctor in India and had her daughter

I think it is great that these women were able to concieve these babies, and it was there dream. But my thought is in your 60's and 70's what a short time you would have with your child. And it is hard for a child to lose their parent at any age, but for a younger child to lose there mother to death so young, to me is just not fair to the child. Granted the fathers are younger and can take care of them, but that is just sad.

Well for hubby & I we just wish we are able to have a baby within the next 2 yrs. he's been here 4 yrs and it hasn't happened yet. Ivf is not a possibility as I already have health issues that puts me at high risk for blood clots. For me I don't even know if I should try past the next 5 yrs.

Considering the fact that you're still pretty young, Tamara, I wouldn't cut myself off at 5 years. I'd say you have a good 10 years left to try, safely. I wish you the best of luck in trying to conceive. :star:

Thanks! I know hubby is disappointed though every time we do the pregnancy test. I give up on showing him anymore.
