The only 2 ideas I can think of is that it allows the petitioner to feel out the spouses ability to adjust to life in the US in addtion to costs. Typically, getting married in the US can help to possibly avoid having to pay a dowry, expensive traditional ceremnoies and travel expenses. However, I think the experience of getting married to your significant other in their culture and tradition is one that will last a lifetime...

It was very important to me that my husband meet my parents before we got married. I lived in Kenya for a few years, so I met most of his family and friends but he hadn't met any of mine. That was our main reason for choosing K1 instead of marrying in Kenya.

This is another good point. I know it's only psychological, but the thought of being separated from my HUSBAND was much more difficult for me to get behind than being separated from my fiance. I know, same person, ha. But...that was just how I felt. I couldn't imagine getting married & then being apart for the beginning of our marriage - but that's just me.

Just throwing this out there guys hope you all are having the best of days i have a question so hopefully get some good answers " Why would you get married in the US and not in Kenya ?" any good answers there ?

Thanks

I would guess you would do this since the process is just a little faster normally and you can be with your loved one sooner or for the American family to participate. I for one got married in Kenya. For me I wanted to experience the culture. It was a day I will never forget. I never knew a wedding could be so much fun.
