Let's look at that debt yet again. When Clinton left office there was a SURPLUS! Under dubya he first set up huge tax cuts that benefitted mainly the very wealthy. Than he was asleep at the watch even when warned in no uncertain terms that bin Laden was determined to strike inside the US. As a result of his taking NO action to prevent such an attack we had a war with Afghanistan that he directed very poorly but with huge outlays of government dollars (of course benefitting his pals at halliburton!). He even managed to use that pretext to invade a country that had NOTHING to do with 9/11! Now there were two wars costing trillions! How did he pay for these two wars? He gave further tax cuts to the wealthy! The economy was in very predictable free fall when Obama assumed control and since then the republicans in congress have fought him every step of the way as he has tried to undo the incredible damage shrub and his minions did to this country. They still prevent taxes from going back to the more reasonable levels under their supposed hero, Ronald Reagan. Look at the graphs of where and when those deficits occurred and when the jobs were lost and when they started coming back. Unless your hatred of a black man being president is just so all consuming that the facts don't matter. Then at least be honest enough to say why you are really opposed to him. Could you at least do that? No? It figures.

My bad. You are of course right about debt vs deficit! And I agree with you that Clinton was an accomplice in the disastrous dismantling of financial regulation and oversight that enriched the few at the top of Wall Street but nearly took out our entire economy! Money has corrupted both parties. Big surprise there! As for Clinton's sexual escapades, I would far rather the president screw the interns than screw the economy and the country as a whole!

Clinton had made the government so "efficient" that we had 4 years of surpluses! And we were on target to wipe out the entire debt if his policies were kept in place. Even Bush said when he first made his tax cuts, that, "our biggest worry right now is that we might wipe out all our debt. And that is a very good worry to have."

By far the two biggest factors in making our debt unmanageable and our government "inefficient" are the tax cuts and the wars.
