Hey everyone,

I studied in the US and obtained my B.Sc. in Biology. After obtaining OPT I wasn't able to find a job and had to return to my home country. The job market is even worse back home and I don't have the finances to do a Master's. I want to find a job in the US and obtain a H1 visa. My issue is I am not sure where how or where to start. Does anyone have any advice for me? I would really appreciate it. Thanks in advance!

Thank you canadianwife. I'm currently in the US on my tourist visa visiting. Do you think I should put my home country address on my resume or would it be ok to use the US address I'm staying at?

Does it matter?

“If you know the enemy and know yourself, you need not fear the result of a hundred battles. If you know yourself but not the enemy, for every victory gained you will also suffer a defeat. If you know neither the enemy nor yourself, you will succumb in every battle.”

Since you do not live in the US, don't you think you'll be misleading employers to put the address you are staying at? I mean I'd be upset if I was an employer, thought you lived at 100 Boxer St, TX only to find out you actually live in Yemen (or whaterver). Sort of misrepresenting your self a bit don't you think?

Good luck

You might clearly want to indicate to your prospective employer that you will need them to sponsor your H1.

Most of the time that is the deal breaker when employer will look at the candidate do the interview everything goes great until later they find out they need to sponsor H1 and then they would back out.

Thanks Harsh & CanadianWife for your advice. I really appreciate it. But this is starting to look more like mission impossible.

I agree with Harsh and Canadian_wife, it's fairly important you let them know you need a sponsorship, because sponsoring for H-1b can be a fairly costly and complicated process for the employer. It's not something you'd want to mention as an «oh btw» after getting the job. Don't give up though, if you do find an employer willing to sponsor you, you do seem to meet the criteria for H-1b. A good starting point in my opinion would be your former school's career center. I know at my school, the career center and international student office were more than willing to help graduated students find OPT work and they did have contacts with potential H-1b employers.

Thank you Jaejay! I'll contact the career center at my alma mater and go from there.
