Are RFE extensions possible?

Hello all, I have a question about RFEs and receiving a small extension on the time limit I have to respond to it.

USCIS lost my medical exam and as soon as I got notice of this, I called the only civil surgeon in my area and scheduled a new medical exam. I scheduled it for May 15th (and I scheduled this over a month ago, so they must be busy) and my RFE response is due June 8th.

Now the medical office is telling me I need to have the TB and syphillis test done BEFORE my medical and those results can take up to three weeks and WITHOUT them, they can't do the medical. I'm scrambing to find someone who will do these tests for me, but nobody's calling me back, so I'm getting worried.

Am I able to extend my RFE time in case they don't get these results in time? This feels completely out of my control and I'm in a bit of a panic.

TB test takes a week. Google a civil surgeon near you and try to get this done. You are given 3 months to respond to an RFE after which you are denied if the time has passed.

I notice that you received your on RFE March 22; however you scheduled the tests for May? We never know what may happen down the road. It's always best to try and get these RFEs done ASAP.

Like I said, there's one civil surgeon near me and that's where I'm going for my medical exam. I am attempting to schedule the syphillis/TB test with them as well, but I have yet to hear a call back and I'd like to cover my bases in case I can't get this done before my medical on the 15th.

I know if I do not respond, I will be denied. That's not what I'm asking.

And again, like I mentioned in my post, I scheduled at the end of March and May 15th was the earliest date they had.

Have you tried contacting the health department for your county? They should be able to do both of those tests.

I have, and I've left two messages, waiting for them to call me back with an appointment. I'm just trying to cover my bases if, by some chance, it doesn't get done in time OR the results don't get back in time.

Have you been waiting long for them to reply to you? I don't know about your state but here you just have to go there and get a number and wait.

Not too long, a few business days. I just received news last week that I had to get the syphillis/TB done before the medical. Up until then, I assumed they were done at the same time (like they were for my original medical) so now I'm scrambling.

I think I'll try doing a walk-in, I guess.

You may find they only do tests at a certain time of day, but if you go there at least you can find out. Good luck.

im also from wisconsin..i did my tb test in my county for only $10..my shyphillis test in planned parenthood for $45 in one week's time got my result...all the results were faxed to my civil surgeon then when the scheduled time to see the doc it's all set

Thanks, I got lucky and the health department has an appointment opening for today, so I'll be able to get both tests done there and they'll fax my results over to my civil surgeon.
