We're still waiting for our IV invoice to be released so we can pay the bill. I just reviewed my DS-261 and realized that for the question "Do you wish to appoint an agent or attorney to receive mail about your visa application?", I selected "No". Should I have selected "Yes" and put my name in as the Agent? My address and phone numbers are there for correspondence from DoS regarding the visa.

I have the green check mark for having completed and submitted the form and I have called NVC a few times now and they say they have the form, but it hasn't been entered into the system yet. Should I resubmit the form, changing my response to YES to appoint myself as the agent? Could this simple thing be what's holding up the release of our IV bill? It was submitted and confirmed received on April 26, so I thought we'd have been able to pay the bill by now.

Sorry to ask about this. I did search VJ, but didn't find an answer so I was hoping one (or more) of you fine folks will be able to help.

Thanks!!

My husband's tax papers are still in india! Thank god for scanners and email! I got a letter from the embassy stating that all I need to bring, besides the tax papers, are valid passports and a birthcertificate for me. Kinda glad we don't need to bring any more passport size pics cause the us sizes cost a bit to get over here. Guess I should bring some more evidence of our relationship just in case, I still have not heard of anyone who has actually had to show it at the embassy here though.

Are you the petitioner? If that's the case you have have checked yes and put your name as the agent. No sure how you would correct that. Try calling the NVC. (603)334-0700

Quick question: both bills are paid and my whole package is ready to send with the exception of an original copy of my marriage certificate. Do you think I can send the packages with a note explaining the marriage certificate situation and promise to bring it with me to the interview when the replacement arrives? I have a copy of the original that I can include in the packet.

If you don't think I should send them but wait for the original, do you think I should send out the AOS package now and then the DS 230 when the certificate arrives? I really want to know what the impact will be if I send the DS230 with only a copy of the marriage cert?

Any thoughts?

I'm not sure what your current situation is with the marriage certificate. But here's my suggestion: you can always try asking to bring it to the interview. Make your own cover letter and mention it in there. As well, type up a sheet with "Marriage Certificate" at the top, and then re-explain what your situation is (as you put it in the cover letter) and ask if you can bring it to the interview. Include a photocopy of the marriage certificate for now (mention this is in the cover letter and the one sheet explanation.

If this doesn't work out, then you wouldn't have wasted any time sending the package out. But, on the flip side, your request can be granted, and you would have saved time :)

I just realized that I wa bumped to Gold Member... Cool!!! B-)

[...]

Grats!

the NVC will not complete your case and forward it to the consulate without a copy of the the original marriage certificate. there are no exceptions...

There are actually exceptions. People have done it.

Although most people select the US petitioner as the agent, it's not necessary. The Choice of Agent form is honestly a moot form at this point since, if you give both email addresses over, then NVC sends all correspondence to the petitioner and beneficiary by email.

You can always try re-submitting the form again, this time checking yes and putting the petitioner's information. But that shouldn't be what's holding your case back. But I've seen stranger things happen, so....

Got case# today :-)

They definitely better refund the cost of mailing that package headbonk.gif

And for passport photos, I always suggest this site to people: http://www.epassportphoto.com/ Completely free :)

And although it might not be required, I'd still bring evidence. Wouldn't hurt!

You have to handle the medical on your own. Neither NVC or the consulate/embassy will send you anything in this regard. The last correspondence you will receive in this process is the interview letter from NVC.

For information on medicals in your country, find the 3 digit consulate/embassy code from this drop-down and read the PDF: http://travel.state.gov/visa/immigrants/info/info_3739.html

You'll need that interview letter when you go to the medical.

Using DHL tracking. Information found here: http://www.visajourney.com/forums/topic/194465-how-to-track-your-case-from-nvc-to-embassy/ (Please read the entire thread and not just the first post. The reference number format has changed since then).

Had my husband call. My MagicJack's no good at this time - slow internet connection coz it's raining. The operator said it's okay now, and that they have accepted it. I would like to receive an acceptance e-mail though. Does it matter that we haven't received one for our daughter's case? :D

I'm the beneficiary. I decided to go ahead and edit the form and resubmit it with my information as the agent. I've already received the confirmation e-mail (which looks exactly the same as the original one).

When I last called NVC about the IV bill, I specifically asked if they had my DS-261 (Yes) and if there was anything that he could see on my case that might be holding up releasing the IV bill (No). Since I don't fully trust any answer they give, I decided to resubmit the form in case my error is causing the hold up.

When I was filling out the DS-261, I must've been thinking that choosing "Yes" for appointing an agent meant naming a lawyer. :bonk: Plus, the original confirmation e-mail showed me as the agent chosen even though I had NOT selected "Yes" and specifically named myself, just included my address and contact information.

Fingers crossed that this will get the bill released already! We just want to give them our money! LOL

Yes, NVC has both of our e-mail addresses and we've received other documentation (Info pack with Case #, IIN, BIN, etc. and the AOS bill instructions and invoice).

I did resubmit the DS-261, but myself as the agent, not my Hubby (who is the petitioner). Will this matter? Good Lord! Such a simple error on my part that MAY (or may not) be causing this delay and now I may have made another one.
