Yay, grats! kicking.gifkicking.gif

There's really nothing to do after POE. Just wait for the green card and SSN in the mail. If you have a question in mind though, I'd be more than happy to answer, as always! :)

Really? the POE officer told us we'll get the GC in mail & we can use the stamp in the passport as GC for now.

But we heard nothing about getting SSN# in mail.

hmmmm... so you are saying with CR1, we'll get SSN# in mail? how soon?

If you checked off 'yes' on the DS-230 for the SSA to assign a SSN, then yes, it should arrive in the mail. But it's not guaranteed. It's suggested here on VJ that after three weeks, if the SSN hasn't arrived, then go apply in person at a local SSA office. This is what I had to do. My SSN never arrived in the mail, so after 3 weeks from me POE date, I went to local SSA office here in town (was pleasantly surprised to know there was one in my town). Took only 10-15 minutes to apply, and 10 days later, my SSN was in the mail :)

You can only get a US passport if you're a US citizen. The naturalization process can only happen after 3 years from POE (if still married to the same person).

Thanks. I have read a bunch of guides, a bunch of times. My wife doesn't have the same confidence in VisaJourney board though, but I try to keep her up to date on what we need to do.

I can honestly say that I don't know how we would have navigated this process without Visa Journey (and in my case, Saylin in particular :star: ). Being able to find information via the wiki's, seeing examples of filled forms & templates, checklists of what we need to include at every step, etc., has been absolutely invaluable to us. Maybe your wife should check it out and see for herself? :)

Exactly! yes.gif I know for sure that I would have been stuck in NVC for a lot longer if it wasn't for this site.

So if my spouse don't get US passport for next 3 years from our POE, then how does my spouse travel w/o US passport?

does she travel with her current Indian passport???

maybe i'm missing to understand something here..

For travel within the US, all she'd need is her green card. For travel outside the US, she'd use her Indian passport (while also making sure she doesn't need a visa to visit the country).

Ok...so we called yesterday ,they didnt say if our case has been completed, but they did say that they'll send e-mails to both of us about the date and time of the visa interview....

I sent them an e-mail today, asking if its been completed...cause need to know.My husband said that the guy on the phone was really rude and angry for no particular reason....sigh

So i am guessing it could be completed, and we'll receive e-mails soon....or its not completed yet...but we'll still hear something ..soon...

I am so sick of waiting!Aghhhhh...

I'd suggest calling up again and specifically asking: "Is my case complete?"

Sounds like it though with them mentioning about waiting for the email about the interview date.
