This is the message my wife sent me:OK my wife got a case # and invoice # from the NVC yesterday. Am I correct in thinking the next thing we need to do is e-mail the Choice of Agent form the NVC?

yup.

but - read a bit also ?

DS-230 - http://travel.state.gov/visa/immigrants/info/info_3190.html

I-864 - http://travel.state.gov/visa/immigrants/info/info_3730.html

General NVC stuff - http://travel.state.gov/visa/immigrants/info/info_1335.html

as you may be missing stuff, and that would suck.

Suckage is bad, at this stage.

Sometimes my language usage seems confusing - please feel free to 'read it twice', just in case !

By looking at timelines, most people who got their interview date assigned are the ones with case closing date 5/11 or earlier which is second week of may which makes me believe what NVC usually say about second week of month. or am i just thinking too much. :innocent:

gosh! our case is not yet received by NVC..wow it's been 2 weeks now since our NOA2! pls hurry up CSC...school opening is Aug. 27.

Keep in mind, it's currently taking 4+ weeks from NOA2 to get a case number. You're halfway there.

AOS packet accepted for me and my son. Good news. Woohoo

Now just waiting for the checklist items (marriage cert and divorce cert) to be added to the case file and we will get case closed.

Can't wait.

Might get July interview after all. One can hope.

[...]

You should try speaking with a supervisor about the marriage and divorce certificates as it sounds like you clearly sent in the correct items.

About the DS 3032, I have a doubt:

My husband currently lives with me in Brazil but his main residence it is the US, his DL address that we just renew, his voter cards has that address, bank account... and so on, we gonna live there cos his father lives there and he lived with him before he came here and here he is on a temporary visa.

My question: The DS asks for an address of my agent (my husband is gonna be my agent), should I use his US address, right? It seems a silly question I know ¬¬' :bonk: but just to not have any doubt. plz....

thank you guys!

I'd use his US address. Although honestly, it doesn't really matter as NVC sends all correspondence by email if they have the petitioner's and beneficiary's email addresses on file. So the DS-3032 is kind of a moot form at this point.

Thanks a loooot Saylin!!!

btw, I have another simple question... we are about to pick my husband as my agent.... is it ok to pay with my U.S bank account?

or the agent needs to pay with his own U.S bank acc. ?

Thanks again... i dont know how i would pass the NVC fase without you guys! (L)

For the fees, it doesn't matter whose bank account is used, as long as it's a US one.

Before I answer, sorry about what's going on :( *hugs*

Now, to your question:

Is it 100% that you're abandoning this process? Or is there a slight chance that things might work out?

If it's 100%, then I'd suggest contacting NVC and informing them you want the case to be closed; that you're no longer pursuing the visa.

If there IS a slight chance things might work out, then I'd suggest doing nothing. You have up to one year from the last contact with NVC (so paying the AOS fee) before they'll close your case. So, if things do work out, you can pick up where things left off at NVC without having to re-do the process (aka, starting another I-130 petition with USCIS).

Saylin can you help me about how o get drivers licence in usa? First i need to take the writing test, right?do i need to go DMV to get the book or i can get it any store like canada? Is there any websight to practice?

Well, before you can get a driver's license, you'll need a SSN. But while you're waiting for that, you can get prepared.

First, I have to know, do you have a Canadian driver's license? Or nothing at all?

Well it is now beyond the point of reconciling. She has explicitly made it clear that she doesn't want to be with me. I am talking to lawyers to find out the process. So yes it is happening. I just feel like I just lost the past year of my life. There is no way I can get it back. I had so many hopes and dreams but I guess it is for the better. I am glad now that I won't be spending my life with her.

So I suppose wait till I actually file for the divorce? It is not like the case is going to progress at all without me doing something. Technically she could fill out the IV form and send the payment right? But I don't think she will ever want to come to the US.

If you have a license already, you may just be able to transfer it over to an American one. That's what I did as I had a Canadian driver's license. All I had to do was show my documents, take a vision test, and pay them $25.

Although, the process might be different in your state. I'd suggest calling up the DMV in your state and ask them if you can transfer over your license and what documents are needed, as well as the fee.

I'd say wait until the divorce is final before doing anything with NVC. Just in case.

Technically, she can do those things. But she'd need a US bank account to pay the IV fee. Not sure if she has one being in Canada. Even if she somehow did that though, and got an interview, she'd be caught later down the road as she wants a divorce now, but still got a visa anyways. If she went through with all of it, she'd probably get some kind of ban for misrepresentation and if she made it to the US, she'd probably get deported. So, if I were her, I'd do nothing unless she wants to go through with those consequences.
