Well, I got my phone under my husband's line before I even got my visa. But I believe you need to have your SSN before you can open your own phone line, so you'll need to wait for that.

And I don't know where you heard you need to deposit money to get a phone. It's not an apartment. You do have to pay for the phone though, and the price depends on how long of a contract you choose (usually the longer the contract, the cheaper the phone). It's just like Canada in this regard.

Just checke the form (which is sitting in my immigration folder), and they just left the spouse line blank, and the officer signed on the line below.

Ohh, so he is not stupid. My PoE officer was reserved. He asked me how i immigrate to canada and after seeing my PR card he asked what im gonna do with that? I told him i applied for canadian citizenship & he said why? He was rude and he didn't even said welcome to USA! When i first came to Canada the officer was so nice,he greeted me very well!

My husband told me about the deposit since i don't have any credit in USA. :( when can i go to ssn office to apply for ssn ? When should i apply for ROC?

My officer was a SHE :P And she was very nice. Asked me a few questions and was polite. Not overly happy or anything, but she was doing her job and was nice about it. Not at all rude. Much better experience than the last time I was there when I got denied laughing.gif

Just be happy you're in the US and had no problems ;)

I don't think credit should be an issue as it's just a phone line. But I don't know as my phone is under my husband's name. Where you will have problems for sure with no credit is getting a credit card. I had to get a job and work there for a bit before getting a credit card. I was denied the first (I applied before getting a job), but approved the second time around.

If you checked off 'yes' on the DS-260 for a SSN to be assigned to you, wait three weeks. If it doesn't come in the mail after 3 weeks from POE, then go to a local SSA office and apply. This is what I had to do. My SSN didn't come in the mail, so after 3 weeks from my POE, I went to apply in person. Took around 10-15 minutes. And then 10 days later, my SSN arrived in the mail.

You apply for ROC within 90 days from your green card's expiration date (typically 2 years from your POE date), so you won't have to worry about this for another 2 years.

You're welcome. At this point, it'll probably be easier if you just get a phone under your husband's account. Then, once your first contract is up (usually two years), then you can get your own account if you wish.

For me, I just decided to stick with being under my husband's account. He gets a 17% discount from his work, and I like paying less money laughing.gif

LOL I know right? I think I'm just in hassle-overload :P My plane leaves at 10:50 AM on the 9th so I'm going to try to slip on in at about 7 AM or so. Think I should call to see what they say, or just show up? :)
