NVC Filers - May 2012

My wife called NVC yesterday and she was told our case is not in their system yet. Our NOA2 was May 2nd I think.

it takes them forever to issue a case number from the time they receive it, about 10 business days or so. Just keep calling them and once your process starts, dont listen to their 20 business day speech lol everything with nvc is about waiting but it can all be rather fast, and then you wait for an interview date to be assigned!!! good luck

For my wife interview;

The Security Guard at the U.S. CONSULATE folded The VERY large X-Ray Envelope that she received from her medical exam so it goes through the medal detector machine.

Question:

1) Will folding this be a problem at the P.O.E?

if yes

2)How do you carry this on the airplane UN-folded?

I ask because I've read many post here on VJ saying that:

1) P.O.E office don't ask for X-Ray Envelope, it's not needed...

2) X-Ray Envelope is for you to give to your new doctor in the U.S....

Since the X-ray isn't given at POE, it won't be a problem if it's folded.

The purpose of the X-ray (besides seeing if you have any problems at the medical) is to give to your new doctor in the US to reference something if you're ever sick.

My X-rays were on a CD, so no folding of mine. But, it didn't matter as no one asked for my X-rays (neither the interview or POE). I still had them with me, just in case, but wasn't asked for.

I'd still suggest having the X-rays in your carry-on (folded would be fine), for that "just in case" scenario. But I don't think I've ever seen anyone asked for the X-rays at POE. But you never know in this process!

I am surprised, i didn t know this big envelope will be needed at the embassy. I was informed by the medical office that this envelope is to be taken with me on my trip day to the US.

I have a question about the Social Security Number (SSN) question #43 on Form DS-230. Should I check the box to have SS Administration apply for my wife's SSN automatically or should I decline and then apply when my wife arrives in the US and gets the green card in mail?

It probably won't be asked for at your interview, but I still suggest bringing the X-ray with you, just in case. Better to be safe than sorry!

It's up to you really. Even if you check off 'no', it's still recommended to wait a bit.

I checked off 'yes', but the SSN never came. So, after 3 weeks from POE (as is recommended here on VJ), I went to the local SSA office and applied in person. Only took a few minutes. I then received my SSN in the mail 10 days later.
