TAX RETURNS, AFFIDAVIT SUPPORT

Hello,

I have a strange situation for my tax returns.

I have dual citizenship, in USA and Canada. Due to the bad economy, I went to work in Canada for 209 and 2010.

My tax returns are a little skimpy for Federal Tax returns for the USA, but I have supplied my tax returns for Canada, which shows that I was living above the poverty level.

Do you think there will be a problem with this?

Thanks so much, my husband has his CR1 interview May 15. He was rejected for a fiance visa 18 months ago, so we are trying the more permanent route....wish me luck!!

Lisa

Are your US returns "skimpy" because you used the foreign earned income exclusion? If so then I think they'll take that into account. I *think* your Canadian returns have limited, if any, value.

I wouldn't think there would be a problem as its income but I would check with the Embassy first as they take your Aff of Support. Canadian Money and US Money are just as strong 1 USD = 0.98 CA, maybe even more.

I have a similar situation, dual citizen of US and Lithuania - I'll be preparing an affidavit of support here soon (hopefully the NOA2 comes in a week or so). I was in Lithuania for 3.5 years up until December of 2011, so my taxes had a gap between 2008 and 2011 (my income in Lithuania was ridiculously low in dollars) but now I make enough to support a family and filed for those 4 weeks in December... In other words - does anyone think it would be a problem if I can only account for 1 month of taxes come the interview? I'll be sending her all the pay stubs to date and other income information to prove my income and financial situation.
