Crown of Thorns, Desert Rose, Climbing Aloe and Miniature Cholla Cactus

This is our showiest time of year... soon it will be all scorched and sunburned out there

By the way, the desert plants in that last pic all survived our relatively mild San Antonio winter on the back porch (which faces south and is covered and also sheltered on 2 1/2 sides) - you can see a little freeze damage to the cactus and the aloe, but they're coming back very strong. I think it got down to 28 or so at the coldest point, but it stays 5-10 degrees warmer under that porch roof. The crown of thorns suffered some encounter with a large animal - maybe a raccoon or a possum that either jumped or fell on it and kind of splayed it out. That would have been painful, I think... Hmmm maybe I should plant some of them where those dogs keep coming in....

The red ones are all gone, but now we have these amaryllis in bloom

and the confederate jasmine is in bloom as well. I have two that cover almost the entire back fence.

Both taken through the screen, so terrible quality (the white line through the jasmine is the pool enclosure :\)

It does smell amazing. Just the slightest breeze brings it into the house.

It's like heaven when I walk past the jasmine - it's like you're in the middle of a cloud of fragrance.

Orchids are still going strong

Here we have more bargain beauties... these are lil miniature phals I got for $2.50 each at Lowe's:

And this large phal was on the sale shelf right after Valentine's Day - its bloom stems had been broken off, so I didn't know what I would be getting. But the leaves looked very healthy, so I said why not. Not bad for $4.00

Look what's happened to Jackie Bright Those blooms didn't last nearly as long as the phals.

But.... she has this thing coming out of her base:
